Maseko Ties is a South African telenovela produced by KMP Productions in which love, loyalty, pride and legacy - along with jealousy, secrets, dangerous ambition, manipulation and defiance - are the ties that create the tension as Dr. John Maseko fights to preserve the Maseko legacy and his idea of the perfect family.
Centred on the Masekos - a complex, well-to-do family - this series explores the ties that bind. Ties of love, loyalty, pride and legacy that unite and strengthen a family; and the hidden ties of jealousy, secrets, dangerous ambition, manipulation and defiance that threaten to unravel them.
Dr. John Maseko fights to preserve the Maseko legacy and his idea of the perfect family, as he grooms each of them to play very specific roles - especially his eldest daughter, Grace Maseko, a doctor too, but in her own right.
Grace wavers between honouring her father's vision for her life and becoming the next Chief of Staff at the J. Maseko Hospital, and experiencing the joys of falling in love – with a photographer 10 years younger than her, whilst working as an aid doctor in poor, rural Africa.
Then there is Molly, the youngest sibling who resents Grace and has visions of her doctor husband, Sydney, taking over the hospital – and plans to get him there. Sydney has his own agenda – a vendetta against the family. What is it and why is it there?
There's also Carol, the stable middle sister – the peacemaker of the group. What happens when she has to fight for her life in a war against cancer?
Aunt Rose, the aunt from the other side of the tracks, pushes buttons and pulls strings, seemingly like a bull in a china shop, but she is really a cunning watcher of manoeuvres.
Finally there is Sandra, a friend of the family who is just that little bit too close to John.
Every episode is a masterpiece of moves and countermoves as the ties that bind the Maseko family shift, loosen, retie and tighten.
The series features an ensemble cast which includes Yonda Thomas as Mike, Monnye Kunupi as Christina, Amos Ketlele as Dr John Maseko, Tshepo Desando as Sydney, Mpho Mabaso as Carol, Sibusisiwe Jili as Molly, Nina Marais as Charlene and Samela Tyelbooi as Grace.
