Season 1

Above Ground: A Revolution Untold is a South African docu-reality music series created by Diliza Moabi unpacking the social significance and evolution of hip hop in South Africa, connecting the front and the back end of local hip hop culture, showcasing various elements of hip hop such as dance, crews, ciphers, battles, graffiti, beat makers, DJs, fashion, social commentary and entrepreneurs.

The 13-part series is presented by hip hop star Zubz (real name Ndabaningi Mabuye), a rapper and lyricist who has been in the entertainment industry for 15 years, writing his first rhymes at the age of 12.

Each episode features different artists who will take viewers on a journey to understand the history of hip hop culture. Baloji Youssoupha shares his thoughts on hip hop in Africa and Shameema Williams shares her views about the "social ills" of woman in hip hop.

Siyabonga "Slikour" Metane discusses the social impact of hip hop as Khuli Chana delves deeper into the influence of hip hop collaborations, while ProVerb talks about the importance of unity in the industry.

Above Ground: A Revolution Untold was created, produced and directed by Diliza Moabi and shot on location at Dope Store, Johannesburg. The script was written by Zama Nkosi and the executive producer for e.tv was Brian Letlhabane
