Season 1 Winner: Dot Dicks

The Great South African Bake Off is a South African culinary reality competition series based on the international format which features a nationwide search to find and crown South Africa's best amateur baker.

The tent is up, the ovens preheated and 12 of the country's best amateur bakers are ready to showcase their baking skills through a series of challenging tasks.

This creative competition show is sure to provide inspiration and delicious fun as the amateurs go all out to impress the judges with their originality and skill, ultimately hoping to bake their way to the final.

No matter what the theme, all the bakers must deliver a showstopping, mouth-watering creation. But after eight weeks of whisking, crimping and piping, only one can emerge victorious.

There'll be tears, there'll be tension, and there may even be a soggy bottom or two.

On your marks... get set... bake!

In the first episode, 12 amateur bakers are put through their baking paces by judges Shirley Guy and Tjaart Walraven. If you think there's no drama in baking a cake, think again!

With trepidation, excitement and a spoonful of nerves, the 12 bakers enter the pressurised environment of the Bake Off tent for the very first time and go whisk-to-whisk in their quest to be crowned South Africa's Best Amateur Baker.

Episode 1 is all about cakes – from the Signature Bake challenge of 12 perfect and identical fruit cupcakes, to the daunting challenge of the mystery Technical Bake.

Experience, skill and ingenuity come into play as bakers tackle a Naartjie Chiffon Cake. When they melt under the enormity of the task, they melt spectacularly...

The final challenge of the week, the Showstopper, requires bakers to pull out all the stops to wow the judges with their version of An Inside Surprise Chocolate Cake. There are surprises aplenty - some expected, some not!

Who will be crowned Star Baker and who will be eliminated from The Great South African Bake Off tent? Don't miss all the hilarity, the drama and the fun as comedian presenters Anne Hirsh and Donovan Goliath take viewers on an unforgettable baking journey.

The Great South African Bakeoff is produced by Rapid Blue for BBC Worldwide, with executive producer Julie Swanston. The series is based on the British format by Love Productions.
