Season 12

Set in Toronto at the dawn of the 20th century, Murdoch Mysteries is a one-hour drama series that explores the intriguing world of William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), a methodical and dashing detective who pioneers innovative forensic techniques to solve some of the city's most gruesome murders.

Murdoch's colleagues again include his beloved wife, the fiery and fiercely intelligent Dr. Julia Ogden (Hélène Joy); Constable George Crabtree (Jonny Harris), Murdoch's eager but sometimes naïve right-hand man; Inspector Thomas Brackenreid (Thomas Craig), Murdoch's sceptical yet reluctantly supportive boss; and morgue assistant Rebecca James (Mouna Traoré), a resourceful young medical student taken under Ogden's mentorship.

All are valuable allies who help Murdoch solve his varied cases and traverse the many stratums and evolving manners of Victorian-turned-Edwardian society.

In the Season 12 premiere, "Murdoch Mystery Mansion": Murdoch and Ogden's new house - designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright - is rocked by an explosion that claims a man's life. Guest starring in the episode is Sophie McShera who played Daisy Mason in Downton Abbey.

This is followed by Episode 2, "My Big Fat Mimico Wedding", in which Murdoch, Ogden, Crabtree and Brackenreid attend Higgins' and Ruth Newsome's wedding where a guest repeatedly tries to kill the groom.

Murdoch Mysteries is produced by Shaftesbury in association with ITV Studios Global Entertainment. The series is filmed on location in Ontario.
