The Dresden Files is an American fantasy drama television series based on Jim Butcher's best-selling novels about Harry Dresden, a regular-guy private detective with a twist: he's also a wizard who tracks down supernatural criminals.
The series aired in the United States on the Sci Fi channel from 21 January to 15 April, 2007. There are 12 hour-long episodes in one season.
The Dresden Files originally aired in South Africa on DStv's actionX (which later became M-Net Action) channel from 5 September to 21 November, 2007, on Wednesdays at 20h00. New episodes broadcast weekly.
The Dresden Files tells the story of Harry Dresden, a regular-guy private detective with extraordinary abilities.
While most people see assaults, kidnappings or murders as the work of people with a depraved indifference for human pain, Harry is as likely as not to see the work of supernatural villains.
That's because he's a wizard. The real thing (and the only one listed in the Chicago phone directory).
His detective business covers some of the bills, but most of his meagre income comes from helping out the Chicago Police Department on those cases that they just aren't equipped to deal with - demons, vampires, werewolves.
Whether consulting for the police on seemingly inexplicable crimes or following his own cases, he battles dark forces with a wry sense of humour.
