Season 6

The Scream Awards is an American award show dedicated to the horror, sci-fi and fantasy genres of feature films, television shows and comic books which includes the year between the previous awards show and the live ceremony in October of each year.

The awards premiered in the USA on 9 October, 2006, and have been held annually since.

The Scream Awards aired in South Africa for the first time in 2010, on TopTV's Star! channel, on Saturday 11 December 2010. The following year the awards moved to TopTV's Showtime Africa channel. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

The 2011 Scream Awards aired on Showtime on Saturday 12 November 2011, at 21h00. The ceremony was two hours long.

2011 Awards

The sixth annual event, which honours all things sci-fi, fantasy, horror and comic books, airs on Showtime on TopTV in South Africa.

Two-time Academy Award nominee Robert Downey Jr. will attend to accept Scream's prestigious Hero Award. With wildly successful films like Sherlock Holmes and Iron Man, Downey has captivated fans and critics alike with his daring and iconic interpretations of some of cinema's most beloved characters.

Academy Award winner and star of National Treasure, Kick-Ass, and Ghost Rider, Nicolas Cage will be on hand to reveal a exclusive new footage from Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance and to accept the Maverick Award to recognise his fearless and intriguing body of work.

Appearing in over 60 films, Cage has blazed his own path through Hollywood and created some of the most memorable, eccentric and indelible roles.

Spike TV's Scream Awards 2011 also feature world premiere footage from some of the biggest releases of the next 12 months. The show includes never-before-seen previews of Total Recall, The Woman In Black, Paranormal Activity 3 and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, with many more films.

Also set to attend are Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky, Lost creator J.J. Abrams, star of Kick Ass and Let Me In Chloe Moretz, Kal Penn and John Cho of Harold and Kumar fame, True Blood star Joe Manganiello, American Horror Story lead actor Dylan McDermott, Dr. Who's Matt Smith, Fringe star Anna Torv and Death Valley cast members Bryce Johnson and Caity Lotz.

The reboot of one hallowed franchise and the thrilling final chapter of another will battle it out for many of the night's top honours, as X-Men: First Class and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 both nabbed 14 nominations, among them The Ultimate Scream, and Best Director.

Two other Marvel Comics franchises joined X-Men: First Class to round out the top four, with Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor receiving 11 and nine nominations, respectively.

Among television franchises, HBO's Game of Thrones and True Blood each tallied seven nominations, with AMC's The Walking Dead up for six Scream awards.
