Season 11

Season 11 is set in a community that has fallen on hard times and where service delivery is too slow.

Meet Sis Noni (Florence Masebe), a community stalwart and health campaigner. She is the thorn in the side of local councillor Philani (Fana Mokoena), a man who looks after himself before others.

When Sis Noni's rundown clinic burns down sparks fly. Both blame each other for the problem. The stakes are high - the health of the impoverished community is at risk.

The challenge is set. Will Sis Noni rally her community to make its voice heard and act together to make things work better?

Smokin Joe's, the local boxing gym owned by Sis Noni's husband Malusi (Dumisani Mbebe) becomes the venue for a temporary clinic. Here Sis Noni can continue with the important work of Preventing Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT).

Her parent support group introduces us to parents fighting the gallant battle against stigma and ignorance.

Sis Noni's other passion is encouraging young men to undergo Male Medical Circumcision (MMC). Here she runs into a wall as her husband insists their two sons undergo traditional circumcision instead.

The third theme this season deals with is managing personal finance, imparting key tips on how South Africans, rich and poor, can save and better plan for their future.

Soul City 11 focuses on riveting individual journeys and struggles, weaving social messages into exciting stories, of love and betrayal, corruption and greed.

Jimmy (Patrick Mofokeng), a local part-time electrician, works with Sis Noni to start a Community Workers Programme (CWP). This way, unemployed people are given work and the community can embrace and take responsibility for its own health.

Some people in Council are more interest in profit than community ensuring that ordinary people's lives are made better.

But people learn to work together and the health and livelihood of the community is restored.

Season 11 was executive produced by Kgomotso Matsunyane, Robbie Thorpe and Akin Omotoso for T.O.M. Pictures and directed by Natalie Haarhof. The executive producer for the Soul City Institute was Harriet Perlman.

Brent Quinn was head writer with Zee Ntuli also writing on the series. The title sequence was by Jessica Clare Phillips anf the music was composed by Concord Nkabinde and Brendan Ross.
