Description

Imposter (known as The Imposter in Season 1) is a South African anthology drama series produced by different productions companies each season which tells a new story with a different cast each season, from two different points of view.

The first season follows the story of twin sisters, Mantwa and Matshepo Tau, who find themselves at war as a consequence of a moment that changed their lives.

Seventeen years previously, one of the twins was responsible for sending her sister to jail, and went on to have a wonderful, happy life on the outside. Her twin, incarcerated for all those long years, finally breaks out - only to take over the life of her sister.

The second season is also set in two worlds, this time following the story of Tebogo 'Tebza' Modikoane who struggles to make ends meet and to provide for his daughter in a township called Kliptown, while his long-lost twin brother - Gary Mokoena - lives a luxurious life with manicured lawns, expensive cars and extreme wealth.

A rollercoaster of events that neither Tebza nor Gary could anticipate takes shape as one is faced with living in poverty while the other wins the trust fund lottery.

Season 1 stars Thishiwe Ziqubu as the twins, Mpumi Mpama as Reginald, Khulu Skenjana as Caesar, Zenzo Ngqobe as Junior and Katlego Setlhare as Palesa. Recurring roles include Omuhle Gela as Lerato, Mary Twala as Gogo and Owen Sejake as Warden Moloisi.

Season 2 stars Mpho Osei-Tutu as twins Tebza and Gary, Didie Makobane as Mmabotse, Mmabatho Mogomotsi as Candy, Gail Mabalane as Kelebogile, Joyce Skefu as Valeta, Seputla Sebogodi as Dali, Tiisetso Thoka as Paballo, Nonhle Thema as Evodia, Sonia Mbele as Big Daddy and Kabelo Thai as Turbo.

Season 1 was produced by Ferguson Films, with executive producers Connie Ferguson and Shona Ferguson. The first episode was written by Bonga Percy Vilakazi and directed by Andries van der Merwe.

The head writers were Gwydion Beynon and Phathutshedzo Makwarela and Christa Biyela was a writer. The series producer was Lauren Nell and the theme music and score was by Joel Azzaisky.

Season 2 was produced by Seriti Films by executive producers Leanne Kumalo, Kutlwano Ditsele and Thabang Moleya. Ditsele and Moleya are directors with Ernest Nkosi.

The Season 2 head writer is Sunni Faba, with story by Gwydion Beynon. Scriptwriters include Neo Sibiya, Andy Petersen, Fabian Medea and Rorisang Motuba. The Season 2 score is by Zethu Mashika.
