DCI Banks: Aftermath is a British crime drama television miniseries adapted by Peter Robinson from his Inspector Alan Banks novels and produced by Left Bank Pictures that served as a pilot for the full series DCI Banks, revolving around a chilling murder investigation into a serial killer that tests DCI Banks to his limits.

The series aired in the UK on ITV, STV and UTV on 27 September and 4 October, 2010. There are two 45-minute episodes in the series.

DCI Banks: Aftermath aired in South Africa on DStv's BBC Entertainment channel on Monday 13 February 2012, at 20h00. The two episodes aired in a double bill. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

Synopsis

When two police officers stumble across the lair of a serial killer, Inspector Banks finds himself faced with a chilling murder investigation that will test him to the limit.

Number 27 The Hill is a seemingly ordinary house in an ordinary street. But when police officers Janet Taylor and Dennis Morrisey arrive, it is clear things are far from normal.

The young, beautiful Lucy Payne is unconscious in the hallway of the house, bleeding from a head wound. Hiding in the cellar is her husband – Marcus Payne – ready to wield a knife at anyone who tries to enter, desperate to protect his secret.

By the time Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks is called to the house, one of the officers is dead, the other fighting for their life and career, and Marcus Payne has been revealed as a serial killer.

Hidden behind the walls and floor of the cellar are the bodies of young women with one thing in common – they all have blonde hair. This discovery marks the start of a shocking investigation that tests Inspector Banks to the limit.

Based on the novel by Peter Robinson and with a cast including Stephen Tompkinson, Andrea Lowe and Charlotte Riley, DCI Banks: Aftermath is a sophisticated and chilling crime drama.
