Description

Play Your Part is a South African docu-reality magazine television series created by Brand South Africa and produced by Greyscale Productions and Brand Fusion which features inspirational stories of ordinary citizens working for the betterment of their communities with the aim of inspiring, empowering and celebrating active citizenship.

Brand South Africa's Play Your Part campaign, featuring inspirational stories of ordinary citizens working for the betterment of their communities, began broadcasting on SABC1 on Sunday, 23 October 2011.

Brand SA travelled the length and breadth of the country asking ordinary South Africans how they are playing their part in their communities, in the process uncovering a range of inspirational stories to share with the nation.

The first episode profiled "a new generation of pioneers who, despite adversity, are charting new paths and flying the South African flag high."

These included Nelisiwe Xaba, who explores contemporary issues and provokes dialogue through choreography and dance; David Tlale, who from one sewing machine has built a clothing brand that has graced the fashion capitals of the world; and 20-year-old racing driver Vicki Kemp, who has been on the tracks since she was 10.

Play Your Part is a campaign aiming to inspire all South Africans to contribute to positive change in the country by becoming actively involved in making a difference.

In keeping with the mandate from Brand South Africa, whose five brand pillars are Ubuntu, Diversity, Sustainability, Possibility and Innovation/Creativity, the television series traverses the country in search of individuals from all spheres of life who are playing their part as South Africans.

The television show gets to know these individuals where they work and live, moving from high-end fashion and art to corporate success stories, inventors and athletes.

Each episode features three outstanding South Africans.

The first season was hosted by Emile Jansen, the second was co-hosted by Mmabatho Montsho and Katleho Sinivasan and the third was hosted by Kabelo Mabalane. Kabelo returned to host for a second time in Season 4.

Broadcast Notes

The series originally aired on SABC1, moving to SABC2 for Season 3.
