About the Show

Around the World in 80 Treasures is a travel documentary television series produced by the BBC and presented by Dan Cruickshank, which documents his five-month world tour visiting his choices of the eighty greatest man-made treasures, including buildings and artefacts.

His tour takes him through 34 countries and 6 of the 7 continents (he does not visit Antarctica). In addition to seeing some of the world's greatest treasures, Cruickshank tries many different kinds of food including testicle, brain, and insects.

His means of transportation includes airplanes, trains, camel, donkey, foot, bicycle, scooter, hang glider and boats.

The series originally aired in the UK on BBC Two from 21 February to 25 April, 2005. There are 10 hour-long episodes in the series.

Around the World in 80 Treasures premiered in South Africa on DStv's BBC Knowledge channel on Friday 5 September 2008, at 22h30.

Synopsis

Join Dan Cruickshank as he takes a global tour of the most breathtaking treasures man has ever created. Exciting and intrepid, intimate and engaging, this series explores some of the world’s outstanding man-made spectacles.

Traversing the globe, Cruickshank visits every continent to reveal awe-inspiring temples, towers, castles, ruins, monuments, and artefacts.

From the exquisite castles of Japan to the Nasca line in Peru; from Persepolis in Iran to the Palace of Versailles in France – this is a unique opportunity to share in the expressive beauty of man’s creative powers.
