About the Show

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan is an American television film of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica television series developed by Ronald D. Moore which consists of newly filmed material as well as a compilation of footage from the TV series and miniseries.

The story is retold with more emphasis on the Cylon perspective and their plan to wipe out the human race. The story follows two versions of Cylon known as Cavil, with one admitting they may have made a mistake, with the story being told in flashback.

The Plan aired in the United States on the Sci Fi Channel on 27 October, 2009. It is 90 minutes long, with an extended DVD version of 112 minutes.

The Plan aired in South Africa on M-Net and DStv's M-Net HD channel on Friday 25 March 2011, at 21h30.

Synopsis

Directed by series star Edward James Olmos and written by Battlestar Galactica's Jane Espenson, the two-hour event was shot on location in Vancouver.

The cast includes Michael Trucco, Edward James Olmos, Aaron Douglas and Dean Stockwell.

Starting before the events of the miniseries, the story focuses on familiar characters including Cylon Number One, known as Cavil (Stockwell), Resistance Leader Sam T. Anders (Trucco) and Chief Galen Tyrol (Douglas).

Set during the events from the miniseries to Season 2's Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II, this story is told from the Cylons' perspective, centering on two distinct Cavil copies as they try to fulfill the Cylons' plan.

In the beginning, the Cylons had a plan, but it didn't account for one thing: survivors. During the chaotic aftermath of the destruction, two powerful Cylon agents struggle with plots and priorities on the human ships that got away, and among the resistance fighters who were left behind.

The story begins in medias res, with the two Cavils from "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II" being escorted to the airlock. The two Cavils argue about the worthiness of their plan to destroy humanity, with Caprica-Cavil beginning to tell Galactica-Cavil why the genocide of humanity was a mistake.

From here, the tale begins as a single narrative, documenting the fall of the Twelve Colonies, before splitting into two distinct but related stories on Caprica and Galactica.
