Joanne Froggatt is an English actress best known for her starring role as head housemaid Anna Smith in the period drama television series Downton Abbey, since 2010.
She was previously known for her role as Zoe Tattersall in the soap opera Coronation Street, from 1997-1999.
Yorkshire native Joanne began her acting career as a member of a youth theatre group. She made her TV debut playing a teenage prostitute in The Bill, before getting her big break as pregnant 16-year-old Zoe Tattershall on Coronation Street.
Since leaving the Weatherfield cobbles, Joanne's never looked back, becoming a stalwart of TV drama with roles in Other People's Children, Lorna Doone, The Stretford Wives and Nice Guy Eddie among others.
She won acclaim for her portrayal of the title character in Danielle Cable: Eyewitness, and also appeared in the harrowing Murder in the Outback.
Other credits include Paradise Heights, The Street, Life on Mars and Nature Boy, appearing alongside Lee Ingleby in each of the latter three.
In 2010, she starred in her first feature film, In Our Name.
