William Petersen (sometimes credited as William L. Peterson) is an American actor best known for his role as Gil Grissom on the television crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, from 2000-2008.

He has also appeared in movies such as Manhunter (1986); Young Guns II (1990); Mulholland Falls (1996); Kiss the Sky (1999); The Skulls (2000); and The Contender (2000).

He has had guest appearances on television shows such as The Twilight Zone, Fallen Angels and CSI: Miami.
