Bio

Hannah was a South African actress best known for her roles in the television series Nommer Asseblief, Agter Elke Man and more recently the M-Net soapie Egoli: Place Of Gold.

Botha grew up in a small seaside village on the West Coast called Dwarsderbos. She matriculated at Hoërskool Piketberg. Thereafter she completed a diploma in Speech and Drama (a four-year Licentiate course).

She worked for 41 years in the Legal Department of the Receiver of Revenue, while at the same time doing freelance radio and film work. She retired in 1988 and performed professionally on stage for the first time in English.

In 1992 she joined Egoli in the role of Elsa du Plessis Pienaar, playing it until her death in 2007.

In total she performed in some 25 movies, including the film versions of Nommer Asseblief and Agter Elke Man.

On Monday 16 April 2007, Botha was admitted to the Garden City Clinic in Johannesburg for medical tests, after not feeling well and cancelling several scenes she was supposed to appear in the week before.

An hour after declaring to nurses that she felt better, Botha developed respiratory problems and died, reportedly of heart failure.

She was 84.
