Then and now on this 2024 Heritage Day
Just this week we received notifications to say that new messages had been posted on the Isidingo Title Sequence video on our YouTube page.
We uploaded it in 2011 after the show debuted new opening credits on 14 June to coincide with the arrival of new family "The Sibekos".
Flashback!
Vusi Kunene and Kgomotso Christopher debuted as Jefferson and Katlego Sibeko that night.
They arrived with their niece Nikiwe, played by Linda Sokhulu, and their sort-of adopted daughter Ayanda, played by Letoya Makhene - who was still Mangezi at the time.
It was before Letoya's splitsville from her husband Privilege Mangezi, who was the final husband she's had.
Of particular interest was the fact that Sisa Hewana was included in the title sequence for the first time as Skhumbuzo "Ace" Nzimande.
Sisa won Isidingo's Talent Search in March 2010 and the following Monday he started filming 10 scenes a day.
At the time he told us he'd lost 5 kgs in two weeks as a result, ha!
A year later he was in the starring cast.

After receiving the YouTube notifications we watched the title sequence again and re-read the messages which reveal how it makes people feel.
It filled us with complex emotions and we thought they'd do the same for you, whether you watched the show or not because they reflect a place and time that's evocative of our heritage.

What an amazing cast that was. I'm not against new talent but the minute the legends like Michelle Botes, Kgomotso Christopher and Robert Whitehead left the show I couldn't find it in my heart to watch the show.
