Hello through the darkness... we hope you can see this news... Openview's launching a new pop-up channel this Monday (23 January) titled Power-UP!

It's on 114 and it's a catch-up service for everyone who's missing their fave shows because of loadshedding.

It's running 18-hours a day in two hour loops so if you're without electricity for 10 to 12 hours a day, you'll hopefully be able to tune in at some point during the 18 hours.

Each 18-hour loop premieres at 06h00 and runs until midnight.

According to eMedia, the channel will also provide advertisers with a repeat screening of their ads to give them more bang for their bucks because of the impact of loadshedding on their primetime adverts.

Shows in the line-up are as follows:

>> Durban Gen, House of Zwide, Scandal! and Imbewu - Mondays to Fridays,

>> The Black Door - on weekends from 23h00 and,

>> The Afrikaans novelas (Daai Crazy Somer, #DisComplicated, Die Vertroueling etc.) will air as omnibuses at weekends.

Shows in this post: Durban Gen, House of Zwide, Scandal!, Imbewu

Interesting, DSTV is also planning to launch a DSTV channel for DSTV compact subscribers and DSTV access subscribers. But what's the point of having to subscribe to their streamer EVOD or DSTV Catch up this case?

Hi Siphelele, interesting about DStv - thanks for the intel.

They're probably both doing it as a non-online option for people who don't have fibre or enough data to catch-up.

With eMedia, it's also for advertisers, to give them another on-air screening of their ads.

A note to say that this channel closed down on Monday 8 July 2024, now that loadshedding's calmed down.
