This just in from the SABC...

The South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has decided to urgently expand its News and Current Affairs services on free-to-air television channels, effective immediately.

This is a direct response to the escalating need for public awareness and more targeted information around the coronavirus outbreak.

Consistent with nationwide efforts to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the SABC - as the primary source of public service content - will continue to provide citizens with valuable, accurate and factual news and information during this period.

In order to ensure that the whole population urgently gets access to critical public messaging, from today onwards, all relevant media briefings and other communications relating to the coronavirus, will be carried live on SABC 2 and/or SABC 3.

The specific channel for transmission will be announced once the information becomes available, or closer to the time. This will be in addition to other targeted news and information slots that have been introduced recently.

It's ridiculous to have the news creating chaos on both channels!

Instead of putting it all over the place and interrupting both they need to turn SABC3 into the SABC News channel, 24 hours a day for the duration of the crisis.

The channel's local daily shows like Expresso and Isidingo aren't on anyway and Survivor isn't even happening anymore so it's hardly like the channel will be a loss whereas SABC2 has some new shows in Apri - would be a shame for them to be interrupted when the news could happen on SABC3.
