The kykNET Fiëstas annually honour the work that has taken place during the past theatre festival year, and this year has again yielded a rich harvest.
An independent panel visits the festivities every year to see new Afrikaans work, and evaluates the theatre, art and music offerings.
This year the Aardklop National Arts Festival, the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival, Innibos, Zuidoosterfees, SU Woordfees and the Free State Arts Festival combined to produce 197 newly-created productions.
The gala event recognising this work takes place at Montecasino Teatro in Johannesburg, and is broadcast live on kykNET.
Schalk Bezuidenhout is the master of ceremonies this year, with co-presenters Anna-Mart van der Merwe, Cintaine Schutte, Dean John Smith, Vashti Prins and Bennie Fourie.
The special also includes performances by Francois van Coke, Lynelle Kenned, Hakkiesdraad Hartman and excerpts from some of the nominated work.
