Dancing with the Stars SA: celebrity cast revealed

Goodbye SABC. Hello M-Net.

M-Net has snatched the rights to Strictly Come Dancing from the SABC and will be premiering the show in the new year, on Sunday, 4 February, with the title Dancing with the Stars SA.

Various international versions of SCD are called Dancing with the Stars so M-Net has obviously gone with this name instead to differentiate it from its former life on SABC2 and 3.

Top Billing Presenter Search winner Chris Jaftha will be hosting along with radio and TV presenter Tracey Lange.

The 12 celebrity dancers are:

National netball player Vanes-Mari du Toit

Comedian Ebenhaezer Dibakwane

Suidooster actor and model Eden Classens

Former Bafana Bafana footballer Delron Buckley

Former Springbok player Thando Manana

Pop singer Connell Cruise

Actress Zola Nombona

Wayde van Niekerk's mother Odessa Swarts

Former Miss South Africa (2015) Liesl Laurie

Theatre and movie actress Juanita De Villiers

Actor Frank Opperman

TV presenter, actress and Anele's big sis Thembisa Mdoda

so when a channel loses rights of show it means they failed paying for licence or what Tvsa?

Yes qavile, the most common reason for a channel losing the rights is because they can't afford it.

Interestingly Rapid Blue will continue producing the show because they hold the rights to it in Africa. The way it works is that the distributor licenses the rights to Rapid Blue and they sub-license to the broadcaster. This isn't always the case - sometimes the distributor licenses to a channel directly but in this case it's a sub-license.

It's the same set-up with Come Dine With Me South Africa... you may remember that Rapid Blue withdrew their offer to produce it for the SABC before it returned to DStv.

Really now, Juanita?!  I'm having a crisis about her because my first reaction is that I don't have a clue why she's on the show but at the same time, these "celebrity" reality show formats often have people you don't know who you "get to know" so maybe she's perfect.

No offense but how is Wayde's mom a celebrity? Does a once-off appearance on a Top Billing home visit episode automatically give celeb status? ??

Hey Onkez, hi! I agree - it's totally ridiculous.

I'm calling it. Remember this comment.

> Ratings will be terrible because nobody knows 80% of these people on this politically correct cast.
> The big bosses will move the show to VUZU because Mzansi Magic may be too "urban" for the non-existent viewership they're trying to pull.
> Cast, hosts and judges will change drastically on next season when the bosses come to their senses.
> I predict a VUZU/Mzansi Magic simulcast maybe.
> Soon it will disappear on VUZU.
> Format will be tweaked to suit the new audience.
> Show becomes a hit.
> The End.
