Telemundo puts its spin on Maid in Manhattan (starts today!)

Yes-yes, Telemundo's new novela Maid in Manhattan is inspired by the 2002 movie of the same name. It premieres at 16h20 today (7 November), replacing If Only I Were You, and stars Mexican singer and actress Litzy in the lead role as Marisa Luján Villa, a maid who finds herself in a complicated relationship with her identity.

The series is both inspired by the movie and extends on it and centres round Marisa's relationship with a high profile hotel guest who mistakes her for a wealthy fellow guest instead of a maid who cleans the hotel rooms. This from the official synopsis:

Before she becomes a maid in Manhattan, Marisa Lujan is a mom in Michoacán, Mexico, where things are starting to get dangerous. Fearing for the welfare of her son, Lalo, she packs their bags for the U.S., and they make their way from California to New York.

Then Marisa lands a job as a maid at a luxurious Manhattan hotel, where she works hard to build a life for her and her son while dreaming of a brighter future. But she couldn’t have ever dreamed up what happens next...

Marisa has a chance encounter with a high-profile guest at the hotel, Cristobal Parker - played by Eugenio Siller (who we've just seen in If Only I Were You). She just so happens to be dressed in a guest’s glamourous garb at the time, and she must keep her true identity as a hotel maid a secret from him. But it’s going to be harder than she thought, as Cristobal has fallen deeply in love with her and is desperate to see her again.

Which proves that it's much easier to be honest in the moment because there's so much you have to organise if you don't!

Litzy and her pink feather duster do more than act in the series. She sings the opening theme song as a duet with co-star Eugenio Siller so keep your ears pricked for it.

Also interesting to note is that Litzy's relationship with Telemundo started in an acting reality search by the channel. She won the search and landed her first Telemundo role afterwards, in the novela Amarte Así (To Love You So), which hasn't aired here.

The series also stars Paulo César Quevedo (The Face of Destiny), Jorge Eduardo García (All Roads Lead to Love, The Face of Destiny) and Vanessa Villela (Part of Me).
