Exclusive! Anga Makubalo signed to Isidingo

TVSA can exclusively reveal that actor and muso Anga Makubalo (aka NaakMusiQ) has joined Isidingo as a major new character on the show.

The news comes in the wake of big changes on the soapie, specifically Kgomotso Christopher's exit on Wednesday night and a production reshuffle behind the scenes.

Isidingo's head writer Rohan Dickson has taken over the reigns as executive producer, replacing Pumla Hopa who now works on other Endemol produced series.

These changes have sparked the introduction of upcoming new storylines, with Anga taking on the role of Obakeng.

TVSA spoke to Isidingo's senior resident writer Athos Kyriakides who described his character as a 20-something, good looking, heartthrob miner - who hasn't always been a miner.

He's worked in neighbouring towns doing other jobs and starts working as a miner when he arrives in the Deep. He arrives solo, seemingly unconnected to anyone else but as things unfold it's going to become clear that he's very connected to one of the families.

"I don't want to give that away," Athos told us when we pried for details on Who. "It's kind of a big plot spoiler but it will come to light that he has a very real connection with two very big characters."

The role means that Anga will be one of the hottest commodities in the country during winter, appearing on three primetime shows at the same time. He plays Bantu on Mzansi Magic's new drama series Igazi - which runs until July - and he'll be reprising his role as Ntando on the second season of e.tv's Z'bondiwe when it premieres in May.

He's already started filming his first scenes on Isidingo and according to Athos: "He's really killing the role so far."

He debuts on Thursday, 16 June.

I wonder how he will handle all the hectic work schedule he has. Seeing from the Sunday papers he is not coping well with the fame, i hope it wont destroy him

Isidingo needs a complete overhaul. Some characters seem lost and dull. Nikiwe, Barker, Zamdela, Calvin, just to name a few. Old characters like Cherel are needed urgently.

Lol I guess the 5 people who watch Isidingo will see him. The rest of us will never know. And I say this with a broken heart because Isidingo is beyond repair but SABC 3 is hanging on for dear life.

Katlego Danke is currently taking a break from acting, but she's not hanging her gloves because performing arts is her professional career. She chose to spend more time with her son.And I think lotto gigs makes things much easier for her,as she cannot work on hectic schedules@Max

im also missing Winnie Modise(Khethiwe) too....isidingo is now in the drain... it was once the best and it had unique characters.... you will never find any character that is like Georgie Zamdela, Len Cooper, BraZeb, Slu etc. not forgetting Cherel. Thembeka from scandal is trying to be like Cherel, but she will never reach the height
