Trevor Noah made his much anticipated Daily Show debut in the US last night (28 September) and first impressions from international media are in.

We've put together a blitz of reviews from online publications who've reviewed the show. As you'd expect, the reviews are contrasting with a combo of predominantly good and not-so-good.

Tuck in...

CNN

"Noah straddled old and new in his debut, seeking to win over Stewart's longtime "Daily Show" fans while also trying to appeal to new viewers. "

The Guardian

IGN

"Right off the bat, you could easily see what Stewart and Comedy Central saw in the beaming young Noah. In addition to leading with great material, the comedian's delivery and charm were spot-on."

The Hollywood Reporter

"Noah's debut was about being as broad and welcoming as possible, reassuring a nervous fanbase that even if the guy at the desk is more dimpled-and-dapper and even if the world is spinning in a different direction, it's still The Daily Show."

Entertainment Weekly

"
I laughed out loud maybe six times during Trevor Noah’s first Daily Show, which isn’t a lot and isn’t nothing."

TIME

TV Guide

"Jokes aside - and jokes considered - Noah's first show was largely a success, much like when Jon Stewart took a brief sojourn away from the show and John Oliver filled in."

Deadline Hollywood

"So the writing and the delivery have a way to go, and how could they not? It was opening night. There were no fatalities."

Variety

"Noah’s debut found him looking more at ease and in command than he ever did as a correspondent, exhibiting a self-effacing streak about replacing Jon Stewart and a facility for selling jokes at the desk."

Hitfix

"It'll take more than a single episode for Noah to feel like an authoritative newsreader, but he actually has a strange edge on Jon Stewart in one category: He truly resembles a bright-eyed, cheerily watchable CNN anchor."

The Daily Beast

"The man replacing Jon Stewart as host of Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ opted for curses and dick jokes over keen observational humor in his first outing."
