Uzalo replaces Gen as No.1 show in SA

Breaking news!

It's happened.

Uzalo has officially replaced Generations as the most watched show in South Africa - a title Gen has steadfastly held for a decade (at least!).

TVSA has been covering the TAMS since 2006 and Gen has consistently remained the number one show each week so this turn of events is extremely notable.

The dramatic takeover happened in the week of 8 to 14 June when Uzalo raked in the numbers by outperforming Gen on two nights of the week: on Tuesday, 9th and Wednesday, 10th June.

It was the first time Uzalo has beaten Gen on any night of week and the double whammy turned its average for the week into a Gen bomb.

Here's a look at the nightly figures:

  Uzalo Generations

Interesting to note is that the takeover occurred in the same week that Gen introduced the BDSM storyline that caused controversy among viewers. Was this the cause of it?

Past and present numbers suggest it isn't. It seems it had much more to do with Uzalo's increasing reach, which has gone from strength to strength since its premiere in early February.

Uzalo debuted to 4,378,000 viewers. Can it maintain its grip on the Number 1 spot or will Gen blast back? We'll keep you posted.

Wow, this is remarkable, if not historic. I did predict that it will happen sooner or later. Now the question is, how long will it remain on top because the difference is marginal.

Lol I also think Gxhabashe has a lot to do with this.

The difference is very small i dont think Uzalo will take the spot for long, Gen will be back on top.

Gugu Zuma ,, well done on Uzalo sisi,, uve show us tht we can count on you,, but Mvundi Vundla is been to the industry for such a long time ,, he will win this race within  summer,, but ALL THE BEST GUGU, KEEP IT UP SISI..

Mfundi i thnk some of his actors are not fluent in their languages,, eg Tsidi and MAMA KA Mazwi,, u are not sure if its Tswana or Sotho,, same as Mama ka Mazwi,, she mixes Xhosa with Isizulu,, i thnk he can just have make a note on tht .. otherwise so far so good we are still clued on SABC 1 MZANTSI FOR SURE.
