Press Release

Mi Casa’s J’Something gets cooking on Mzansi Magic

Mzansi Magic is once again tapping into cooking television territory with the launch of an exciting cooking show, Something’s Cooking.

Set to debut on Mzansi Magic on October 22nd, South Africa’s newest-kid-on-the-culinary block offers a fresh twist on the current cooking show format.

How? Something’s Cooking is helmed by none other than Joao da Fonseca - known to music fans as J’Something of the hugely popular group, Mi Casa.

Over a 13-episode series, the lead singer of the chart-topping, award-winning group will reveal how his passion for food, family background in the restaurant world and Portuguese and African roots can combine to create a delicious culinary journey.

Viewers will watch J’Something  as he explores new ingredients and cooking styles, proving you don’t have to be a professional chef to create magic in the kitchen. Something’s Cooking will also give Mi Casa fans the opportunity to share in the singer’s everyday life, including what he gets up to when he’s not on stage.

“When I don’t sing I cook,” says J’Something. “Life is a classic recipe of hard work, good friends and a perfect grilled sarmie. Something’s Cooking is who I am, not perfect but passionate.”

Adds Nkateko Mabaso, M-Net’s Director for Local Interest Channels, “There has been a massive explosion in foodie culture and cooking shows all over the world. Chefs and wanna-be chefs have become household names and there are plenty of shows that offer amateur cooks the chance to be in the spotlight”.

“But Something’s Cooking turns that on its head, with a household name launching his own cooking show - and Mzansi Magic is thrilled to be part of that.”

With over 50,000 followers already on Twitter, J’Something’s fans have already shown their interest in his food obsession.

Something’s Cooking premieres on Mzansi Magic Channel 161 on the 22 October 2014 at 19:00.
