As you've probably heard on the news, Oscar Pistorius has been arrested and charged with murder after his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was found shot at his home in Pretoria today.

29-year-old Reeva was a model who was supposed to make her TV debut as a celebrity contestant on the new fifth season of Tropika Island of Treasure. The season is scheduled to start on SABC1 this Saturday (16 February) at 18h30 and was filmed in Jamaica late last year.

Series creator and executive producer Samantha Moon released this statement earlier today:

We are absolutely devastated at the tragic loss of Reeva Steenkamp, our friend and beloved member of the Tropika Island of Treasure 5 family. Reeva was a wonderful human being and an extremely talented and intelligent woman. Her kind and loving spirit was evident to all who knew her and her zest for life will be truly missed.

We are blessed and privileged to have known her. Words cannot express how saddened we are by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Reeva’s family and friends.

There's no word on whether or not the series will go ahead on Saturday. It's all been pre-filmed and it's a competition so the show can't edit or change things. If it it airs it would air as it would have if Reeva were alive.

Word from a source close to the show is that the production will be making a decision about the season's future on Friday.

What do you think the decision should be be? Should it go ahead or be cancelled?

I  also think the show should be AIRED!!! it is a TRAGEDY for the family that she passed on shame but she went to the Island because she wanted to be a part of TIOT. If they feel seeing her on TV will be too much for the family then they may not watch!!

I think if she was my family I would allow that it be played. She had to much to live for. She was young, talented and beautiful!!! Show casing the REAL person she was wouldn't be such a BAD thing to do!!!

The show should just go on! Production is money! Surely she signed a release form cause they already spent money for the show. Yes it was a tragedy but it's memorial of her. It was her first debut let her fans embrace this moments

I think they should air it as well! Just to show the type of person she was and showcase to south africa her personality and her beauty. I've read things about her since the murder and it looks like she truly was a great person... Who knows it might even generate support on her side in the murder case against Oscar.

This statement just in from SABC1 about Reeva's family's feelings about the show being aired:

"Season 5 of Tropika Island of Treasure will go ahead as scheduled tomorrow, Saturday 16 February 2013, at 18h30, on SABC1. Following consultation with the Steenkamp family, Mrs Steenkamp, mother to the late Reeva Steenkamp, expressed her desire for the show to continue as scheduled."
