2012 SAFTAs - all the winners

The 2012 South African Film and Television Awards took place at Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg on Friday and Saturday night and were once more surrounded by an annual signature of the event: controversial chaos.

e.tv shows and performers weren't involved in proceedings after withdrawing from the ceremony a week and a half ago but some of their shows still won awards.

According to a National Film and Video Foundation spokesperson, the winners had already been chosen when e.tv withdrew so event organisers said that the broadcaster would still be acknowledged if they won.

According to e.tv this was done against the wishes of the broadcaster and without their knowledge. TVSA asked for e.tv's comment and Monde Twala, e.tv's Head of Channel, issued this statement:

The decision to keep e.tv’s programming in the SAFTAs award ceremony was made by the NFVF. e.tv withdrew all its programming and talent participation from the 2012 South African Film and Television Awards.

The channel is committed to producing fresh and relevant local content, while nurturing some of the greatest talent in the industry. It is for this reason that we are determined to ensure that our creative talent gets genuine recognition for their hard work.

Furthermore, the channel would like to reaffirm its respect for the local film and television industry as a whole.

We will continue with efforts to address the issues relating to the transparency of the SAFTAs and to support the establishment of an independent industry academy which will administer the awards.

Also involved in a beef with the ceremony is popular soapie 7de Laan who didn't submit the soapie for consideration and were excluded from the Public Vote category as a result. For the full fiasco, please see: SAFTAs 2012: 7de Laan fights back.

The non-fiction ceremony was held on Friday and the headline fiction ceremony took place on Saturday night. This was hosted by Bridget Masinga and Jeannie D and aired on SABC3 last night (11th).

Here's who won at both ceremonies, for television and film (the winners are in red):

Dear Etv hu cares? Like reali?  Make ya own awards.
7de Laan move to eTV.

SABC please stop making the show abt ya programmes.

Dear SAFTA chairman/ceo let journalist be the judges. Not SABC folks.

To ISIDINGO you deserve it so BIG UP to you. Keep up the good work.

OK! So Isidingo won Best TV Soap, how come their ratings are so low and Generation's ratings are sooooo high up? BEST TV  SOAP! Really?

Justin_
12 Mar 2012 10:53

Congratulations to The Wild, it is the best produced show in the country. @MissFabulous: Its not about the amount of viewers you have, its about the quality of the production, acting and everything else that goes into the show. Isidingo is miles ahead of Generations in everything. Its a pity they lack in viewership.

Minah

Justin i dnt think best sopie has got anything to do with quality production or whatever its a lot to do with us being die hard generations fans but not voting.. im one of the many generations fans who ddnt vote but it doesnt mean i'll stop being a fan

ontrance
12 Mar 2012 12:10

Sorry guys, it is about viewers. Go to any creative, even those who are in advertising, newspapers everywhere, you become a creative because you want people to watch or read or buy into it. Makisto will agree, he doesn't write articles to read them by himself, you write them so that people read and comment, when it's millions you are even more happy. Advertisers also create ads so that people buy into it so they can go buy a product. Television writers write for viewers, no writer even book writers would say I just write even for five people, that would be a lie. So, having viewers is the point not awards.

Congrats to Scandal(Best Post Production Team on a TV soap) and Rhythm city(Best Writing Team on a TV Soap)- I'm still saying best tv soap is Generations and Isidingo don't deserve that award, they should give it to Generations...sad but true hey... LOL

tha - bang
12 Mar 2012 18:22

the saftas are a farce.how can someone be the only nominee in a category and run against themselves based on episodes?how can a director be nominated for best director but his feature not being nominated for best feature? the industry needs credibility but this is not the way to do it

Gloryee
12 Mar 2012 22:01

12 Mar 2012 22:45

Isidingo does NOT deserve that Damn award nxa! And in what universe is Karin Van Der Laag a better actress then Michelle Botes? Haibo di SAFTAs is nothing but a joke! Thank God I decided not to watch mxm! Why is Generations now Generubies? I really love that soap hey I did get pissed when my grandad made me watch it all the time, but then I realized it has a good story line and solid following. @Justin ratings matter a great deal without viewers u r nothing I won't lie hey... My favorite soapy is Scandal but give. Credit where credit is due! I will never watch the SAFTAs again just the thought that Karin won best actress goes beyond me damn! Michele deserved that award! Like I said I'm a soapy queen hence I have my favorite to Isidingo fans congrats on Ur soapy winning! Even though they did not deserve to win#

Who are theses people that voted for Isidingo, why aren't they watching the show if it is so good; Fact is, RC kicked it's ass in the 18h30 slot, then they moved it to the 19h30 slot and Scandal is continuing where RC left, RC and Scandal have made Isidingo their Biatch, RC and Scandal run this town; and that's a fact! The numbers don't lie.

Minah
14 Mar 2012 15:45

If the number dont lie then Generations should have won but nada

14 Mar 2012 16:02

I didnt even know about these awards. I was just browsing around when i saw the blubbly JennyD on my screen.

I can't really comment on some awards but whoever voted for Maggie was definitely high on somehting. I have nothing against her but COME ON or should i say COMMON! You can not put Cherel and Maggie on the same page. NEVER maan!

Ingenuity
15 Mar 2012 07:03

All am saying that there is no limit to how many times a person can vote, one could be sitting in their basement voting away, that won't translate into increased ARs, you can win all the awards in the world in the world, that doesn't mean that you are the best at what you do and more so for this SAFTAs. Public vote, who is the public is what matters. I watch Scandal and RC and didn't vote for them cos etv withdrew them. The SAFTAs are a fuss, so I don't think we should be tooting our horn for winning any award from them. They are run by the SABC after and they are not credible. How can you run an aawrd show for your own shows, doesn't make sense to me.
I recently watched The Wild for the first time and I have to say that the show is slick and if I had a choice, it is a show I would watch.
