My Confed Cup Opening Pics

I don't have much to say about Bafana Bafana and their Bernard Parker, the opening ceremony was nice. There was a lot of creativitity with the painting and the "Ke Nako" thingy but Lebo M, I'm not sure what the hell he was doing or singing.

I had fun at the stadium though... STILL MAD at South Africans for not showing up at the stadium on time, hence the empty seats on the pics below.

I, as Bafana's number 2 fan was there but it looks like that wasn't enought to get a goal from them. Next time I'll watch from home. (Not)

And then by the time the game started,....the seats were :

Parker! You are going to the history books my boy....

b12

Is there someone out there who knows WHY Aaron Mokoena is our captain??? Anyone????
Also, can someone please tell him to stop calling his team mates "The boys"??

b13

b14

In other news:

  • Apparently the Iraq players are complaining about 3 Star accomodation, kanti why are our visitors staying in 3 star hotels???
  • Steven Pienaar (the force behind the R34 Million), Aaron Mokoena (who is a game or two away from an own goal) and Macbeth Sibaya still haven't signed their new contracts after the players vs Safa dispute.
So what did you think of the opening ceremony?
The atmosphere was awesome for me.

OVER HERE ALL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CONFED CUP OPENING CEREMONY & GAME! LOL

Renegade
15 Jun 2009 13:39

Kanti what did Parker do? I watched the opening ceremony, and when the game started I decided I'd rather go to the cinema and watch a movie.

So, the opening ceremony...it was ok...pity there's nothing to fairly compare it with, and i feel you on Lebo M, I had no idea what he was doing. It was also very painful to watch on TV coz the commentators wouldn't shut up, so while I saw Yvonne and Siphokazi on stage, I don't know what they were doing.

Brown Shuga
15 Jun 2009 13:45

Parker , our striker, was just at the right place at the wrong time and ended up playing defender for Iraq. If he wasn't where he was, when he was, the score would have been 1-0. But ja, it's all part of the game...

Brown Shuga
15 Jun 2009 13:46

Rene, Msholozi was there to say "I declare the 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup open."

15 Jun 2009 13:49

i also did not see the Parker fiasco - but when they showed it on the news...i thought...OUCH! And yeah, I was so annoyed with the commentators who wouldn't SHUT UP during the opening ceremony...i mean wtf????

15 Jun 2009 13:53

Lol, was it really Somizi's choreography? Hai, mina I didn't see much "dancing", just a lot of activity with the kids...

Brown Shuga
15 Jun 2009 13:54

InHisShadow & Renegade, you must have been watching SABC 1.

Yvonne and Siphokazi sang for less than 3 minutes and they saying that "Africa, Africa yeah" song, I think it's Salif Keita's? They also sang Umqombothi for about 1 minute if not less... I wonder how much they got paid for doing that..

Sobza
15 Jun 2009 14:31

Leave Bernard Parker alone

Katlego Mashego should have scored as he had only the keeper to beat, Terror Fanteni....missed with the header and no body is saying anything.....Parker made a mistake which was not intentional....and he even tried to get out of the way.

@ Cheesa , they not foreigners we part of one continent so it was necessary for them to play a part in that opening. Guyz  let's be realistic now Parker was in a wrong position but there wasn't much he can do as the Iraq player was next to the ball already.  But Bafana Bafana did well . KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BOYZ WE BEHIND YOU 100%.

15 Jun 2009 15:17

Let me start by thanking One & ONLY for the tickets...I looked all around for you, did you go to the match?

My complaint to the organising committee

If you going to be adapting European style of doing things, then do it like them the right way.
The whole parking @WITS and queuing for buses was too disorganised.. and NO i didnt arrive late because i was @ JHB by 13:00. Like they did @ the inagguration how come there were no signs to show anyone where to park?? We drove to Ellis park only to de shown around by metro police who didnt seem like they knew anything.. Eentually we got a VERY RUDE metro police who told us to go park eWITS..We stood on the queue for a 1 hour and not because there were no busses but because people just moved to the front of the queue as there was no control over that.

2. An opening match needs to start @ 2 guys, not only because its winter but because of the messed-up transport system. The parking eWITS is convinient and all but the transporting issue around it SUCKS.. It was sunday an that match was not only attended by people from around bathong

3. NO ONE told us anything about where we will get our transport when we leave the stadium, but i thought the cleverest thing to do will be to go where you got off  and boy WAS I Wrong?? The next thing after the match we have to walk around doornfontein for close to 1:30 looking for buses to WITS. We were send from EAST to west and some of us even had to catch a taxi to wits that was charging R20 per person.

When we eventually got  a bus, some conf guy wanted us to get off and moved for the DOME people..i mean WTF??? big ups to our driver for driving away.

CATERING
Guys f we going to have visitors shouldnt we introduce them to our local food?? Why sell burgers to visitors if we have dumblings, pap e.t.c??
Can you please let those ladies who always cook eStadium to handle your catering affairs coz whoever you hired was incompetent.
I queued for more than 30 minutes just to get water, and i was not there to queue but to watch the game, and that was before half-time... The queue got longer @ half time
Those girls had attitude problem, and were too slow hleng bathong. Can we do the catering the same way as we always do.
and to top it all the food was finished before half time..WTF???

Nna if such things arent going to change id rather be watching my 37cm @ home shame...

I was at the stadium at about 13h00 but i was disappointed that there was no entertainment then , we had to watch those kids preparing for the opening ceremony. So.... the opening Ceremony or lack of it thereof, Whew... here I spend my hard earned sunday waiting for this spectacle.... 2 oclock comes all I am confronted with is Carol in studio and I thought WTF, then they cross to Walter who couldnt hear and they had a shot of him bitching... that was not nice hey....

Anyway the kids rock up wearing white t's and brown pants and my first thought was WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! they run around and I struggled to make sense what was more irritating the kids in white t's or the SABC commentators who were loud and they were not making sense *sigh* I thought the opening ceremony was supposed to be just that the opening ceremony with as little commentary as possible, Siphokazi and Yvonne sang and to this minute I have no idea what they sang cause of the commentators....

Ke Nako moment started taking shape and I though now we getting there.... They ran out and came back with paint and the MAGIC started and the white t's finally made sense, the flag thing was brilliant, I loved it I started getting the chills, dunno if it was CPT weather but I told myself Ke Nako... lol!

Then came the Confed Cop Logo and I thought we are killing it.... before I knew it I had another hour of Carol not making sense... but all in all it was nice but way too short. at least they should have started at 3 and link the ceremony to the kick off, at least that's how i think it should work....
