MTVBase: Call For 2009 Award Entries

The MTV base Africa Awards have put out a final call to African musicians to enter music videos to be eligible for consideration in the Awards, coming up in Nairobi, Kenya on 10 October 2009.

To be eligible for inclusion in the Awards artists must have had one or more of their music videos played on the channel between 16 August 2008 and 30 June 2009.

If you're a muso who'd like to have your music video considered for broadcast on MTV base or if you're eligible and you'd like to enter the Awards, you can send your videos to:

Please note: they must be in BETA SP/Mini DV format and must be accompanied by a Video Submission Form (VSF).

2009 Submission Guidelines

Artists based in South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania or Nigeria can also send videos to MTV directly to your local MTVbase talent representative - info available on MTV's website.

All videos received will be subject to MTVbase’s usual terms and conditions.

Music videos received and broadcast in the qualifying period will potentially be considered for one or more of the following voting categories for the awards, to win a MAMA golden microphone trophy:

Best Female
Best Male
Best Live Performer
Best group
Best Alternative
Best Hip-Hop
Best R&B
Artist Of The Year
Best New Act
Best Video
Listnership's Group Award

The awards are open to artists from across sub-Saharan Africa including: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Comores, Congo West, Cote D’ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome, Senegal, Sierre Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Various categories are also open to international artists.

The second edition of the ceremony will take place at the Indoor Arena, Moi International Sports Complex, Nairobi, Kenya. The TV show of the awards will be broadcast on TV channels around the world from 17 October 2009, including MTVbase (DStv, Daarsat) and terrestrial channels Citizen TV (Kenya), WBS (Uganda), TBC (Tanzania), TV3 (Ghana), STV (Nigeria), AIT (Nigeria).
