Hi bloggers

NB: ONLY ANSWER IF U UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT

To start let me tell u this...All my life I have been an energetic woman, works hard and has always known what is it that she wants..........Now i need advise on this: I have been working for a year now since i left school with a diploma in Chemical Engineering. I must say that enjoy my job, but I now wanna go back to school obviously a diploma is nothing in my field of work. I wanna go and do my B-Tech and from there Project Management.

But I'm having difficulty deciding on what to do....I wanna do B-Tech in Chem Eng, but part of me wants B-tech in Quality Assurance.

Now the question is what is the disadvantage of not having a B-Tech in Chem Eng, but instead have it in Quality Assurance then progress from there. I already know the subjects for each of the above, the subjects are not my concern. It's just that i wanna know if maybe somewhere somehow not having a B-tech in Chem Eng will disadvantage me.

i was faced with a similar situation but the answer lies with what makes you tick.....a lotta people studied for careers that dont suit their personalities....if you want to grow your experience in the plant then BTech:Chem Eng is the way to go but if you want to be in the office with *bleep!* loads of paperwork and having to sort some kak from people then Quality Assurance is the way to go......also will help in getting a management position....hope this helps

I agree with Bra Bizza there,if you are a hands kinda person then B-Tech:Chem Eng is your field but then if good with crisis management and admin, and aspire to be a CEO one day then B-Tech Quality is your way to go.Nna i wasted three years of my life studying Financial Management, but to tell you the truth i never practised in that field,i enjoyed numbers at Tertiary but now i hate them.I more into Marketing and Communications, now in need to study towards that now.

I feel you Cnhlanhla, unfortunately I can't help you gal, I am also faced with the same problem where I have to choose between Project management and IT( Voice).........i'm in a standstill till when me don't know, but I think you need to research not only on the subjects but how those ppl who are experts in those fields feel about their careers esp. in Quality Assurance.

@ Bra bizza.........a lotta people studied for careers that dont suit their personalities.......... this is exactly what i'm trying to avoid....as a result as i am typing this reply, in front of me is my journal. I've decided to write all the things that i like & dislike  about working in plants hands-on. So far on top of the list is that i know for a fact that i don't wanna die in plants, working shifts all my life.

@ floh.........thanks and gud luck to you too.

Why not divert then and try Quality Assurance that way you can dirvesify ur career path. I work at the SABS and i know that QA is not just office based, u could also do the ISO short courses to advance urself. But u won't get very far with just a Diploma in ur current field, u also need Project Management. I did a  six motnh course which was crammed into a 5-day course, finished it last week then i'll do advanced. Its really nice and interesting hey, u'll enjoy it, but daaamn expensive.

Eish gal...I understand your dilemma. okay, do you really know what quality assurance is all about? What is your motivation for going for QA except that you don't want to work shifts forever. You mentioned that you love your job (chem eng related), so why don't you increase your knowledge in this field (by studying further of course) and take it from there. Once

You mentioned that you love your job (chem eng related), so why don't you increase your knowledge in this field (by studying further of course) and take it from there. Once you are more qualified and have gained more experience you will not be running around the plant working shifts or following pipe lines, LMAO....bad memories..eish

By the way I am left with one subject to complete my B-Tech Chem eng (hate it, started it before changing direction in my career), am working in QC now but don't have any QC/A qualification yet...will do one of those specific courses in QA/C instead of whole B-Tech. Have you considered Operations management or B-Tech Industrial Engineering

if you want to grow your experience in the plant then BTech:Chem Eng is the way to go but if you want to be in the office with *bleep!* loads of paperwork and having to sort some kak from people then Quality Assurance is the way to go......also will help in getting a management position. Bra Bizza, that's bull and you know it, right?
