Idols Songchoices: The Guys

Here's the lowdown on what's happening on Idols this Sunday :

From the press release:

This weekend the public voting finally starts on M-Net’s Idols Season Four. The Top 24 contestants have been divided into two groups - 11 guys and 12 girls - and this Sunday (16 September) the guys will compete for the first votes of the season. Next week (23 September) it’s the girls’ turn.

There were 12 guys but 23-year-old Richard Mtsweni from Centurion withdrew from the competition on Friday as a result of personal reasons - so 11 guys are getting ready to kick the competition into high gear on Sunday.

This is who'll be singing what:

Bjorn Blignaut (26) from Radiokop in Johannesburg sets the tone with the megahit “Wonderful World” from James Morrison;

Daniel Buys (22) from Bryanston in Johannesburg sets the girls’ hearts aflutter with John Mayer’s sexy “Your Body Is A Wonderland”;

20-year-old Dominic Momberg from Durban cuts “Footloose”, from the movie of the same name;

Young Jarred de Kock (18) from Bellville in the Cape takes a smooth approach with Michael Bublé’s cover of the sexy swing standard, “Sway”;

Lucky Linksteen (26) from Alberton also performs a Bublé song - the Canadian superstar’s swing version of “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”;

George’s Munro du Toit (26) goes a completely different route and chose Rodriguez’s “Sugarman”, as covered recently by local band Just Jinger;

Peter Llewellyn Moss (30) from Port Elizabeth gives everything he’s got to Josh Groban’s big ballad, “Remember When It Rained”;

Peter Simeoni (20) from Durban puts his own spin on teen icon Jesse McCartney’s “Beautiful Soul”;

Richard Hala (29) from Wellington goes old school with the Eagles’ “Hotel California”;

The oldest contestant in the competition, 30-year-old Rob Warren from Durban, rocks the house with U2’s “One Life”;

And Sabelo Mthembu (24) from Johannesburg raises goosebumps with Seal’s “Kiss From A Rose”.

Voting opens immediately after the show on Sunday (16 September) and viewers can vote via landline, SMS, MXit or on the Idols website at www.mnet.co.za. The voting lines will close just before the end of Monday (17 September) evening’s live Results Show.

PS: Wondering what Richard's "personal issues" were.
PPS: Crappest song on the list: Michael Booblé. It's beyond me why his cover versions are so revered.

THANX TASHI!!!
I happen to like MB but that crazy little thing song is also a choice i question.
I think Seal's Kiss from a rose is an AWESOME choice of song and i hope he can pull it off.

I have so many faves where the guys are concerned,  i can't pick just one!

You know with strict budgets and so on and so forth, means that I cannot watch Idols and also cannot vote ... might check the official website out and vote from there (if I can find the time).  Thanx for your updates.

Hello my lovely bloggers.

I read on The Times this morning that Richard is a pastor and he feels that some of the songs go against his personal values and beliefs and he doesn’t feel comfortable singing them so he withdrew from the show. I don’t mean no disrespect for the Man of the cloth but damn this is Idols. WTF did he expect to sing?? Gospel?? Come on there are so many guys who’d kill to make the top 12 and now he does this. I really don’t understand coz I’m sure he knew what kind of show Idols was before entering.

Anyway my favourite of the boys is Bjorn and Sabelo (he can sing but i'm worried coz he doesn't seem to have the Idols's look, hope it doesn't count against him)

Thanks Tashi, u can count on my comments coz i'm a BIG Idols fan.

I quite like Rob Warren - he reminds me a bit of 'Simply Red' and of course Peter Llewellyn.

Do any of you know how many of the guys are going through? Quite like this format of putting everybody together instead of in different groups, this way we can really choose our favourites instead of just our faves in a certain group.

I also like Bjorn, Peter from PE, Munro, Daniel the smoocher and so many others.

Can't wait for Sunday's show!

I hope Richard didn't withdraw because of that silly reason, there's been three seasons of Idols, off course he knew what type of songs will have to be sung.

Richard Hala...mmmhhh...

In 1998, he was in a group called "Blac Sugar", they won the Shell Road To Fame competition and our group came second...he was really cute. Before all this chubbiness came into effect.
As always, Shell Road To Fame never kept their promise and Richard's group never got their record deal...

He then entered Popstars, was in the top 10 and the rest of the guys that didn't make it to 101 (top 5) with Preston, Pam, Ntumi and co formed the group, can't remember the name, with Lois etc....

Fast foward to 2007, he's now in Idols...

P.S. Where is Wellington? Cape Town?

Moral of the story...maybe reality shows are not the way to go. He's got the most beautiful voice ever but somehow reality luck is not on his side.
He needs to hit the gym, get a recording contract and do his thing. I will support him, that's fo sho!!!

I think Munro was the best of the night. Daniel was also not too bad, but the rest was average!

The group richard was in was Afro Z.
I also think Munro was the best lastnight. His voice isnt like the same same idols boys voices. I can see myself buying his CD.
