Here's all the news about the goings-on in 7de Laan last week:

Monday 14 August

Hilda and Matrone rush to the Boekwinkel hoping to get their hands on a copy of the Hillside Times. When the newspaper is eventually delivered, Emma reads the negative article that Neville wrote about the desparate measures the two will go to get publicity.

Needless to say they are both upset by the bad publicity blaming each other and nearly coming to blows.

Mata Hari tells Boerbul she’s falling inlove with him, explaining in detail about how she bumped into her ex-boyfriend, that being Altus and felt absolutely nothing for him.

Karien tells Paula the biggest mistake a woman can make is to tell a guy how she feels about him, its way too soon and Boerbul is sure to run a mile. Paula realizes Karien is absolutely right and tries to stop the e-mail from going through but it’s too late, it’s already been sent.

Altus tells Xander that Mata Hari is really getting under his skin, she is his dream girl and he can’t stop thinking about her. The e-mail comes through but before Altus can read it, his screen goes blank and Altus goes ballistic.

Vince is all over Felicity, she tells him how grateful she is for the romantic evening he planned the previous night and she invites him to a play. He agrees to accompany her.

Marko excitedly tells Aggie all he found out about making t-shirts and a buddy of his has equipement to sell at a reasonable price. Very convenient, don’t you think? Aggie is very reluctant to agree to anything until they had spoken to George.

Madel goes to the boekwinkel in search of a specific book. Emma receives a phone call from Nicholas Scott and we see the look of shock on Madel’s face. She seems rattled and leaves the shop immediately.

Altus is highly upset about losing the e-mail, seems there was a virus in his laptop and he tells George he has backups of everything work related except a backup of his mailbox. He phones the computer guy and promises two cases of beer if he can retrieve his mail.

Meanwhile, Paula is feeling sorry for herself. Not having heard a word from Boerbul she assumes she scared him off, telling Aggie she’s doomed to live life as a spinster.

Neville tells Paula that the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce will no longer be on the panel of judges for the Dazzling Dame Competition. He has asked Madel Terreblanche to stand in.

Just at that moment, like a snake in the grass, Matrone come gliding in bringing freshly baked rusks for Neville. Off course it’s all part of her scheme to win his favour and she tells him she bears no grudges for the article he published.

Knowing what Matrone is up to, Paula quickly makes her way to Hilda and gets her to snap out of her depressed state. Easy to do that, with Hilda you just have to mention Matrone’s name to get her blood boiling and I suppose it works vice versa (for Matrone) as well.

Kabelo invites the guys to meet him at the club as its ladies night. They tease Vince about going to see a play and Vince being the macho man that he is, phones Felicity and lies about having to see his father.

It’s only a matter of time before Vince’s lies will catch up with him, pity about Felicity’s heart having to be broken as a result but luckily Xander will be her shoulder to cry on.

Matrone seems to be getting her way with Neville that is until Hilda steps in, koeksisters in hand. She’s full of praise for Neville and even goes so far as to thank Netta for being such a worthy opponent.

The look of utter astonishment on Netta’s face is priceless as Hilda gives her some koeksisters as well. Neville is very impressed with Hilda’s genuine sweet and sensitive nature.

Oh Neville you such a pushover, these women will outwit you any day.

Aggie approaches George with a business proposition, He tells her they already have a supplier for the t-shirts but seeing her disappointed expression, he says he’ll be willing to listen to her and Marko and perhaps strike a deal.

Oom Francois receives a mysterious phone call, it seems someone familiar will be making their way to Hillside and they don’t want anyone to know. He promises the mystery caller not to breathe a word and almost tells Katinka who it was.

Now when you must speak, you don’t Oom Francois, we are all dying to know who it was and why they phoned you of all people. Who do you think is coming to Hillside, Liesl, Wilmien, Wilmien’s mother, perhaps? Or maybe it’s the only person that I can think of that’s near to Oom Francois, Tannie Rademan? That would make perfect sense since we all believe that she would be the best person to win the Dazzling Dame Competition.

The guys are having fun at the club, Vince orders a drink all round and even orders one for a chick sitting at a table by herself. Marko sees what’s going on and does not look happy.

Tuesday 15 August

There are no new messages from Boerbul for Mata Hari and Paula thinks she’s cursed. Karien tries to console her but Paula perks up when suddenly an e-mail comes through from Boerbul. He explains his absence and that he had lost all his recent e-mails due to a virus. Paula is positively thrilled to hear this.

Oubaas is on the phone with Moekie. What I love about this whole Moekie story is that it allows us viewers to use our imagination of the goings on at Rondomskrik. This time my imagination is running wild as I picture Moekie finding Gert and Cheryl in a gambling den, with her hippo sjambok in hand, Gert is forced to go with her as he sits on the back of Moekie’s bakkie and has to say goodbye to Cheryl. Finally!

It seems Gert has no choice but to say goodbye to his loose lifestyle with Cheryl as Moekie drags him home to his wife and ten kids and puts him under house arrest. Can you just imagine the scenario?

Oom Francois is organizing a cocktail do with his mystery caller as the guest of honour. He orders platters from Vince and invites the whole Laan. Everyone tries to get him to talk but for once his lips are sealed. George, Emma and Dezi speculate about who the mystery person could be and they’re on the same track as me as Liesl, Wilmien and Bart’s names are mentioned.

I don’t think it can be Tannie Rademan, it has to be someone that had more than just a fleeting appearance, someone from long ago. It can’t be Leon, he’s married to Christelle, neither Connie nor Zac as they already had their appearance. The only other person I can think of is Sello who worked with Leon and was married to that doctor, I can’t think of anybody else unless its’ somebody before I started watching.

Matrone confronts Hilda about her embarrassing display at the Times offices and as the two argue, Mandla steps in to say it’s too late, the panel have already decided who the finalists are and only they know the names.

Marko makes decisions on his own when he tells Aggie he had already bought the screen printing equipment, Aggie is not happy.

Paula and Altus continue to flirt and eventually discover they’re both from Hillside. The two decide it is time to meet face to face.

Mandla and Altus speak about the boys’ night out and the amount of shooters consumed, they mention Vince’s hard partying unaware Felicity is listening to every word. She confronts them and they confirm Vince was partying with the boys the previous night.

Aggie and Marko pitch their t-shirt proposal to George and Dezi and when Marko gives them the quote, George tells them the contract is theirs but he wants a sample. Aggie seems nervous but Marko sees a money making opportunity. Well it is a far cry from the illegal mampoer scheme they had going on awhile back.

Felicity confronts Vince about lying to her and he smoothly lies his way out of the situation and even gets Felicity to apologise for doubting him. Vince is way too smooth for his own good.

Paula and Karien speculate about who Boerbul can be whilst sitting in Oppiekoffie. They suddenly see a plain looking man with his laptop open and Paula nearly catches a fit thinking it’s possibly Boerbul. Zinzi puts her mind at ease when she says it’s a tourist who can barely speak the language.

Geez he was’nt even that bad, there are far worse looking guys out there.

Hilda brings Madel an Ikebana and she seems surprised by Hilda’s unusual gift. Hilda reminds Madel that their friendship goes way back and seems awkward until Madel pushes her for her very strange behaviour. Hilda nervously asks Madel to tell her if she’s a finalist in the Dazzling Dame Competition but Madel’s lips are sealed.

Felicity tells Marko about Vince and he warns her to be careful and to be absolutely sure of her feelings for him. Felicity looks worried and you ought to be girl, your boyfriend is a slimeball.

Wednesday 16 August

Hilda is very worried about not being a finalist in the Dazzling Dame Competition. Katinka further aggravates matters when she reads Hilda’s tea leaves and tells her to be strong as she foresees trouble ahead for Hilda.

Matrone and Hilda fight about the paper, each curious to see if they made the first around. Inge decides to read out the names and not being able to handle the suspense Matrone grabs the paper out of her hands and reads her own name very proudly.

Hilda is just about to burst into tears when Inge reads her name as well. Hilda jumps for joy but Matrone tells her she won’t get past the first round.

Marko tries to figure out silk screening by reading a book about it but it’s all Greek to him as he can’t seem to understand it. Carlos gives Marko the afternoon off so that he and Aggie can learn the art of silk screening.

Altus sees every girl in Hillside possibly being Mata Hari. Xander tells him to stop wasting time and arrange a meeting with her, which he does.

Francois is speaking to his mystery caller and Emma and Dezi are like kids as they beg and plead Oom Francois to let them in on his secret guest. He lets slip that it’s a woman and before he can give more details, Katinka stops him.

There goes my theory that it could possibly be Sello.

Paula is happy to hear that Boerbul wants to meet but has second thoughts about the real life romance not matching up to their romance on the net. She has no choice in the matter when Aggie replies on her behalf.

They decide to meet at Cherry on Top at 7, she will be holding a daisy and he will be wearing a white rose on his lapel.

Marko and Aggie are at Charmaine’s place trying to master the art of printing t-shirts but they don’t seem to be winning as Marko drinks beer for inspiration.

Paula is dressed to the nines in a red sexy number. She’s nervous and Inge and Karien assist her with getting ready for her dream date. Oooh I can’t wait.

Altus is getting ready to meet Mata Hari when George bursts in at the Deli telling Altus to immediately attend to a work-related crisis. Altus can’ seem to get out of it and thinks he’ll still be in time to meet Mata Hari.

Dammit George, why now? Why must Altie always do the dirty work? Aah he looked so cute with that disappointed expression on his face.

When Felicity returns home to get ready for Oom Francois’ do, she is shocked to find Charmaine’s house in such a mess. Aggie and Marko are not looking too hot either. It seems their silk screening efforts are turning into a huge flop.

Its Francois’ cocktail party and everyone is there to welcome the guest of honour.
Vince dares to flirt at the party not seeing Felicity who makes her way over to him unaware of his intentions.

Paula is at Cherry on Top looking around for Boerbul who has’nt made his appearance yet. She starts pulling of the petals one by one and storms out when she gets to the last one “he loves me not”.

Oom Oubaas tries to say a few “gevleulde” words but Francois stops him, making a very nice speech about the mystery guest. Everyone is anxious, myself included, when who should make a dramatic appearance singing her way in, none other than gorgeous Alyce. Everyone is thrilled to see her.

Its great that Alyce is back, I never even thought about her but one thing is bothering me, where is Alyce gonna work? With the boutique in such dire straits, where will Alyce end up?

Altus eventually makes his way to Cherry on Top but he is too late as he sees the table strewn with daisy petals.

Thursday 17 August

Paula feels utter humiliation at Boerbul’s non appearance. Karien tells her to give him a chance to explain but Paula says its’ over between them.

Madel lets Jan Hendrik know that she’s happy his marriage is back on track.

Charmaine and Vanessa return from their holiday, relaxed and ready to get back to work.

What is Matrone up to now? She’s walking around with a basket of little fudge parcels, dishing them out to everyone and canvassing votes in the process.

Altus has sent 10 messages to Mata Hari but to no avail, she refuses to answer him. He is upset with himself that he allowed her to slip through his fingers. He tells Xander that he will write her a long letter explaining his true feelings for her.

Altus and Paula bump into each other at the arcade. He senses she’s feeling down and offers to listen but she brushes him off. He is just about to open up to her when he changes his mind. The chemistry is still very strong between the two.

Oubaas walks into the Deli eating Matrone’s fudge. When Hilda hears what Matrone is up to, she forbids Oubaas from eating anything Netta gives him.

Alyce and Emma catch up in the Deli. Alyce says that life on the road is not meant for her and that she and Tebogo eventually broke up. She missed her friends so much and decided to return home.

Dezi visits Vanessa at home and she breaks it to Dezi that she misses Aubrey so much and she will still grieve for a long time. Dezi comforts her.

Vince creeps up on Felicity and she tells him she has a special outfit for the night, hinting for him to take her somewhere special. He tells her that he has to meet with his father about the Deli’s books.

Francois, Kantinka, Hilda, Oubaas and Charmaine are having a hanepoot for old time’s sake before Francois and katinka return to the farm the next day. Hilda seems down and tells Charmaine she’s thinking of withdrawing from the competition because Matrone will always have one up on her. Charmaine encourages her to stay.

Charmaine tells Francois how grateful she is to him for supporting her and not accepting her resignation.

Katinka once again mentions to Hilda the trouble she foresees in Hilda’s future.

Jan Hendrik tells his mother that Nicholas Scott will be at the Chamber of Commerce function, she quickly makes up some excuse not to go.

Aggie tells Marko that they need to inform George they can’t do the t-shirts for Kyriakis De Lange. Marko brushes her off saying there’s a course which they can attend to learn about printscreening.

Paula receives another message from Boerbul which she deletes but prompted a second time to delete, she clicks No. Good thinking girl, you have to read his letter.

Felicity tells Charmaine that Vince makes her happy and Charmaine says she deserves all the happiness. A knock comes at the door and Charmaine says she invited Neville to supper. She gives him the gift she brought from Cape Town.

Felicity is obviously surprised to see Neville and asks him where Vince is. She’s stunned when he says he has’nt spoken to Vince in ages.

How will Vince lie his way out of this one? Will Felicity be stupid enough to fall for it?

Friday 18 August

Karien finds Paula crying over Boerbul and Paula tells her of the wonderful e-mail he sent her, apologizing for not being in time and also pouring his heart out. Paula quickly sends him a reply message saying she forgives him.

Felicity tries to avoid Vince at all costs, not answering her cell neither the boutiques’s landline. He eventually makes his way to the boutique and confronts her where she calls him out on his lie about being with his father. Vince is unable to get out the hot spot and storms out angry, telling her she can’t expect to be with him all the time.

Dezi and Jan Hendrik tell Madel of the wonderful evening they had the previous night at the Chamber of Commerce function. Madel is more interested in Nicholas Scott and Jan Hendrik tells her about his wonderful speech and that he introduced himself to the man. Madel is quite pleased to hear that he remembers her and also sends his regards.

Altus is thrilled to hear that Mata Hari has forgiven him and the two make plans to meet that very same evening.

Hilda is very worried about Matrone canvassing votes and asks Paula for help but Paula brushes her off saying she got her nominated and that’s as far as it goes, she needs to concentrate on her own love life now.

Felicity is very upset and makes her way to Emma for a chat. Not finding Emma in the Boekwinkel, she sits down thinking about her fight with Vince when Xander walks in, sees her and makes his way over. Felicity confides in him about the huge blow up with Vince.

George goes to Marko for his t-shirt sample but Marko tells him he will have it the next day. Aggie is very worried but Marko tells her to join him that afternoon for a screen printing class at the community hall. Aggie is not convinced it will help matters.

Hilda decides to try Matrone’s tactic of canvassing votes by making date fingers dashed with soya sauce and dishing it out to everybody. Nobody seems to be impressed with this wild combination and Charmaine tells Hilda she need not stoop to Matrone’s level.

Just at that moment Matrone walks in followed by the old folk. She orders cake for everyone and they praise and salute Matrone for her kindness and generosity. Matrone is as happy as a pig in mud.

It seems Alyce is running low on cash. After seeing the price on an outfit at the boutique, she gives Inge some pathetic excuse for not fitting on the outfit. Time to go job hunting Alyce, only problem is where will you work, Oppiekoffie, the Deli, Boutique, T&T, the Times and Kyriakis De Lange don’t have any vacancies.

Maybe she can try her luck at the Boekwinkel but Emma has everything under control, well there’s always Aggie’s Cleaning Services.

It seems that T&T will be having a major sale. Madel and Carlos approach George to organize a pamphlet for their sale. Carlos asks Marko to work late to mark down items but Marko is unable to since he has that very important class to attend.

Xander goes to the Deli to confront his brother about cheating and lying to Felicity saying she’s a very special girl who does not deserve to be cheated on.

It’s time for Paula’s date with Boerbul. She’s dressed in a very pretty feminine pink dress when she decides to change her sandals. George comes to pick Karien up and as the two leave, Paula comes out of the room. She tries to open the door but the door knob comes off and it seems the door is locked or stuck somehow.

Paula cannot get out of the apartment and Karien and George’s cellphones are both off since they made their way to the movies. What’s a girl to do now, how will Boerbul ever believe her story?

We see Boerbul sitting in the restaurant with his rose firmly pinned to his lapel waiting for his Mata Hari but she will not be appearing tonight.

Tune in next week to see if these two will ever get together, whether Madel will come in contact with Nicholas Scott and if Felicity will finally dump Vince for good.
