Sweepslag (Whiplash in English) is a South African, Afrikaans-language live music television series hosted by Maurice Carpede which showcases up-and-coming Afrikaans musicians alongside more established acts.

Season 2 premiered on SABC2 on Friday 14 November 2008, at 19h30. There are 13 hour-long episodes in the second season.

Synopsis

Following in the footsteps of Noot vir Noot and Supersterre - that have seen established musicians introducing newcomers - each episode of Sweepslag showcases a new Afrikaans muso.

Filmed at the Rendevous Theatre at the State Theatre In Pretoria, each hour-long episode puts the spotlight on two established Afrikaans musicians, along with a newcomer to the scene.

The established artists perform four songs each, the newbie performs one and their performances are interspersed with interviews. The show consists of 80% music and 20% interviews.

Hosted by radio personality Maurice Carpede, the musical backing is provided by the six-piece Sweepslag band, led by Noot vir Noot band member Jaconell Mouton.
