Season 1

Martin is an American television sitcom created by John Bowman, Martin Lawrence and Topper Carew and produced by HBO Independent Productions which revolves around disc jockey Martin Payne and his inconsiderate yet smart-mouthed attitude towards his friends, neighbours and whoever else might find themselves in his presence.

The series aired in the USA on Fox from 27 August, 1992 to 1 May, 1997. There are 132 half-hour episodes in five seasons.

Martin originally aired in South Africa on SABC1, although broadcast dates are unavailable. It later aired on DStv's Vuzu and Comedy Central channels. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

Season 1 aired on Vuzu from 28 August to 3 October, 2012. New episodes broadcast daily at 17h30, on weekdays.

Season 1 premiered on Comedy Central on Wednesday 12 March 2014, at 20h05. New episodes broadcast daily, on weekdays. There are 27 episodes in the first season.

Synopsis

Martin Payne is a radio talk show host at WZUP Radio and lives in an apartment complex in Detroit with his attractive girlfriend Gina Waters, a marketing executive.

Martin comes across as a very loud mouthed, opinionated macho man but he's actually very sensitive, off course only showing this side of himself to his girlfriend, Gina.

Martin's door is always open to his friends who loves stopping by. There is Cole Brown who works as a janitor and who has a girlfriend named Big Shirley, aptly named since she's never seen from the chest up.

There's also the tall, bald-headed Tommy Strong who goes out with Pam James, Gina's secretary and best friend. Pam and Martin despise each other and there are lots of hilarious put down lines between the two of them.

Martin makes it clear to his friends that he is “the man” and what he says goes, no matter how Gina feels about things. Off course Martin would'nt dare spew such nonsense in Gina's presence.

There are lots of other quirky characters making up the cast of Martin, played by none other than Martin Lawrence himself, we are introduced to his neighbour Sheneneh, his mother Mama Payne, Otis the security guard with the loud mouth and fat belly, Roscoe the snot-nose 10 year old kid, Ms Geri a senior citizen who does'nt tolerate disrespect and various other characters.

There's also the weird neighbour, Brother–man better known as Bro'man who lives on the 5th floor and constantly raids Martin's fridge and generally "borrows" things by entering the apartment thru the fire escape.

The sitcom focuses on the romantic relationship between Martin and Gina as they go through various stages from being live-in lovers to eventually getting married and starting new jobs in Los Angeles.
