Shabangu P.I. is a South African television drama miniseries created by Simphiwe Mnculwane and produced by Magic Factory which chronicles the adventures of two young men who team up to form a formidable investigative team who investigate and solve a wide variety of different township crimes.

The series originally aired on Mzansi Magic from 4 May to 1 June, 2013. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are five hour-long episodes in the series.


Criminals have a new nemesis... and his name is Shabangu.

He left KwaZulu-Natal for Johannesburg seeking closure and instead found Modise, a young, energetic, former cop with a past.

Together they established themselves as a formidable criminal investigative team cracking the most difficult cases in the township.

Cleaning up the streets, one criminal at a time, this is Kasi's best crime-fighting duo.

Created by Simphiwe Mnculwane, Shabangu P.I. was produced by Magic Factory. The head writer was Julie Hall and the series was directed by Vivek Mehta. Patronella Sello was the executive producer.


Episode 1: The Case of the Cheating Husband

Mavis Khumalo suspects her husband of cheating and requests that Shabangu and Modise investigate. Shabangu, a traditionalist, believes this is a private affair and is reluctant to case but is persuaded by Modise who is eager to boost the practices flagging fortunes.

They soon get more than they than they bargained for when they get the wrong end of the stick and nearly break up a happy marriage.

Will they manage to salvage their reputation?

Episode 2: The Case of the Stolen Taxi

Now a major taxi boss in Johannesburg, Jabavu asks for Shabangu and Modise's help in locating several taxis that have disappeared mysteriously, undercutting his profits and making it difficult to claim from insurance.

After some time on the case, Shabangu and Modise begin to suspect Jabavu of foul play. Little do they know he has an explosive ace up his sleeve that could blow Shabangu's past wide open.

Episode 3: The Case of the Kidnapped Child

The child of a rich supermarket and butchery has gone missing and the trail has gone cold. Desperate to find their son, his parents turn to Shabangu and Modise.

This cat and mouse game sees them risk everything to catch the kidnappers.

Episode 4: The Case of the Jewelry Thief

A robber has been terrorizing the township for a while and it is beginning to embarrass the local police captain. In an attempt to redeem himself, the captain employs Shabangu and Modise to track down the offender.

They set a trap for him and soon discover that there is more to the robber than meets the eye.

Episode 5: The Case of the Stolen Identity

Someone has stolen the identity of a popular local musician and is making a killing masquerading as her. When the impostor threatens to ruin the musician's life, Shabangu and Modise are called in to investigate.

Shabangu gives Modise his first solo case as he tries to put his past to bed.
