The previous four seasons of Rockville told the tale of JB (Shona Ferguson), a high-flying underworld figure involved in a ring of prostitution at his top-class cigar lounge in Rockville, Sandton.
The business dominated the underworld scene and caused a rift between JB's middle class family and that of his in-laws, a working-class household.
Season 5 explores how the owner of a now five-star, legitimate establishment and his wife Lindi (Enhle Mbali) have to turn Hotel Paradiso into a money-spinner again.
The aftermath of previous seasons has dried up their coffers and put many livelihoods on the line, as room bookings dwindle.
Thuli Phongolo joins the cast this season as Buhle, an unemployed law graduate from rural KwaZulu-Natal whose fortunes change after an attempted abduction thrusts her into a sophisticated criminal network run by Kalashnikov (Siyabonga Shibe).
She becomes a hostess at a high-class brothel disguised as a hotel.
Other actors joining the cast this season include Wiseman Zitha, Kwezi Ndlovu and Thabisile Zikhali.
As Season 5 begins we find JB dealing with the aftermath of what COVID-19 did to his business.
Rockville is produced by Ferguson Films. The executive producers are Connie and Shona Ferguson; the series is written by Phathutshedzo Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon.
