Doctor Who: The Snowmen is a British television special and an episode of the science fiction television series Doctor Who, written and produced by Russell T. Davies, which follows the adventures of the Doctor and his new companion Clara as they embark on a mission to save Christmas from the villainous Doctor Simeon and his army of icy snowmen.

The Snowmen aired in South Africa on DStv's BBC Entertainment channel on Saturday 16 March 2013, at 19h35.

Synopsis

The Snowmen introduces a new companion, a new look for the Doctor, plus a new monster in this movie-scale episode.

Starring Matt Smith as the Doctor and introducing Jenna-Louise Coleman as new companion Clara Oswald, The Snowmen follows their adventures as they embark on a mission to save Christmas from the villainous Doctor Simeon (Richard E. Grant) and his army of icy snowmen.

Christmas Eve, 1892, and the falling snow is the stuff of fairytales. When the fairytale becomes a nightmare and a chilling menace threatens Earth, an unorthodox young governess, Clara, calls on the Doctor for help.

But the Doctor is in mourning, reclusive and determined not to engage in the problems of the universe.

As old friends return, will the Doctor really abandon humankind or will he fight to save the world – and Christmas – from the icy clutches of this mysterious menace?

Starring Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman, Richard E. Grant and Tom Ward.

The executive producers are Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner and the special was produced by Marcus Wilson and written by Steven Moffat.
