Season 5

The Chris Rock Show is an American late-night comedy talk show hosted by comedian Chris Rock featuring guests from entertainment, publishing and other fields. The show includes a topical monologue, interviews, pre-taped comedy segments and performances by musical guests.

The series aired in the USA on HBO from 7 February, 1997 to 3 November, 2000. There are 55 half-hour episodes in five seasons.

The Chris Rock Show originally premiered in South Africa on TopTV's Fox FX channel on Thursday 27 January 2011, at 20h35. It later aired on DStv's Mzansi Magic channel. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

Season 5 has not yet aired in South Africa.

Synopsis

Late-night talk show hosted by comedian Chris Rock, featuring guests from entertainment, publishing and other fields. The show includes a topical monologue, interviews, pre-taped comedy segments and performances by musical guests.

The series was taped live in New York City at the Circle in the Square Theatre. The show won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety or Music Program in 1999.

Some of the guests who appeared on the show include Prince, Jenifer Lewis, Eartha Kitt, Tyson Beckford, Erykah Badu, Tracy Morgan, Janeane Garofalo, Andrew Dice Clay, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Wyclef Jean, Whoopi Goldberg, Missy Elliot, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Bobby Brown, Jesse Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Usher, Spike Lee, Lenny Kravitz, Don King, DMX, Jerry Springer, D.L. Hughley, Jay-Z, Chaka Khan, Taye Diggs, Bernie Mac, Jill Scott, Morgan Freeman, Pamela Anderson, Martin Lawrence and Sade.

Actors who performed roles on the show included Wanda Sykes, Ali LeRoi, H. Jon Benjamin, Louis C.K., Tim Meadows, Lance Crouther, Paul Kozlowski, Mario Joyner and Peter Austin Noto.

The series was produced by Chris Rock Enterprises Inc, 3Arts Entertainment and HBO Downton Productions. Writers on the show included Louis C.K., Lance Crouther, Gregory Greenberg, Jon Hayman, Ali LeRoi, Chuck Sklar and Jeff Stilson.

The executive producers were Chris Rock, Michael Rotenberg and Nancy Geller.
