Jill Scott is an American soul and R&B singer-songwriter, poet, and actress.

Her acting debut came in 2004, playing Donna in four episodes of the television sitcom Girlfriends (in 2004).

This led to several film roles including Rosemary in Cavedweller starring Kevin Bacon, Hound Dog, Michel Gondry's Dave Chappelle's Block Party and Why Did I Get Married? (2007) and Why Did I Get Married Too (2010).

Scott is also a two-time Grammy award winner for her debut album in 2000.

She played the leading role of Precious Ramotswe in the BBC/HBO series The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, from 2008-2009.
