Season 1

Amalia is a South African television drama series created by Chris Barnard, directed by Katinka Heyns and produced by Sonneblom Films about an unsolved murder where all the inhabitants of a small town are suspects. The series is in Afrikaans, with English subtitles.

Amalia Vos (Illse Roos), is a respected poet, planning to finish her latest work while visiting a childhood friend in her hometown in the countryside.

Two weeks later, Amalia commits suicide by overdosing on painkillers and police find photographs of her husband, Piet Vos (Dawid Minnaar) and a young woman next to her bed.

Piet refuses to believe Amalia took her own life. He claims the pictures are doctored and that he does not even know the girl.

Piet goes to the small town where Amalia died, but finds that the townspeople are unwilling to help him solve the mystery. Shunned, he has to rely on Captain Wollie de Wet (Marius Weyers), the town's chief of police, for assistance.

When the investigation begins in earnest, everybody in the town becomes a suspect – Piet included – and it falls to De Wet to discover the truth behind Amalia's death.

Amalia stars Marius Weyers, Dawid Minnaar, Anna-Mart van der Merwe, Hélène Truter, Marcel van Heerden, Louis van Niekerk, Magda Beukes, Jan Ellis, Tobie Cronjé, Grethe Fox, Gavin van den Berg, Hannes Brümmer and Illse Roos.
