Description

Smallville is an American science fiction television series created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, which follows the adventures of a young Clark Kent's life in the fictional town of Smallville, Kansas, during the years before he becomes Superman.

Growing up is tough for any teenager. But it's even tougher when you have mysterious super powers you don't understand and must not reveal to others - powers that keep you from fitting in with everday high school and dating.

More so when you're destined to be the greatest superhero of all time...

Years ago, a freak meteor shower hit the small town of Smallville. A little boy is discovered and is raised by a loving, but childless couple. The little boy, named Clark, soon starts revealing extraordinary powers.

In his teen years, Clark Kent is very aware of his powers, but this powerful secret needs to be guarded as the truth about his origins begin to unravel. The series is riddled with dangerous villains and foes that Clarke must face.

Added to the pressure is the fact that he cannot let those closest to him (apart from his parents) know the truth about himself.

Smallville was developed for television by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on the DC Comics characters. Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer serve as executive producers, along with James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola.

The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster.

Trivia

In each episode Clark can be seen wearing any one of, or a combination of red, yellow and blue; the colours he will one day don as Superman.

Annette O'Toole, who plays Mrs. Kent, also appeared in Superman III as Lana Lang.

The Smallville High student newspaper that Clark and Chloe write for is named after Glenville High School's student newspaper "The Torch", which Superman creator Jerry Siegel wrote for when he was a student there.

The show contains frequent in-joke references to the Superman myth in various episodes.

Chloe and Whitney were created specifically for the show (they were never mentioned in the Superman comics). However, in 2003, DC Comics announced that Chloe would be introduced into the Superman comics.

The sound effect used for the sound of Kryptonite radiating is the same as the one used in the show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

Lex Luthor's mansion is the same mansion used in X2.

Jensen Ackles, who plays Jason Teague in Season 4, was the second choice to play Clark Kent. If Tom Welling had not accepted the part, the role would have gone to him.

Lana and Chloe's dorm room number is 222.

The name of one of the Kryptonian baddies from Season 5 is Nam-Ek, the same name of the race of aliens that come to earth (the race of aliens that Piccolo hails from) in the anime Dragonball Z. Nam-Ek is also the name of one of the Phantom Zone criminals in the DC Comics Superman titles, first appearing in Superman #282 (December 1974).

All of the actors and actresses playing teenagers are far past their teenage years, and at the time of filming Season 6 Tom Welling was 29 years old.

After Season 5, the show was picked up by The CW because The WB merged with UPN to form The CW.
