Description

Smith is an American television drama series created by John Wells which follows a group of professional thieves who struggle to keep their work separate from the rest of their lives as they plot and execute intricate, ingenious high-stakes robberies across the country.

The series aired in the USA on CBS from 19 September – 3 October, 2006. There are seven episodes in the series, although only three aired in the US before the show was cancelled.

Smith originally aired in South Africa on DStv's actionX (now M-Net Action) channel from 5 January - 16 February, 2007, on Fridays at 19h00. It later aired on DStv's M-Net Series channel. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

Synopsis

Smith tells the story of a close-knit crew of career criminals who plot and execute intricate, ingenious high-stakes robberies across the country.

Although Bobby Stevens appears to be a regular family man with a nine-to-five job, he's actually an expert thief who is seeking just two or three more big jobs so he can finally leave the business for a comfortable, lawful lifestyle with his wife, Hope and their two children.

While she and Bobby never discuss his illegal pursuits, Hope is growing weary of turning a blind eye.

The members of Bobby's second family, his core band of partners, bring their own areas of expertise to pulling off the biggest and most sophisticated armed robberies.

Joe is in charge of all things related to transportation; Jeff, the most reckless of the bunch, is responsible for firepower, Tom is on parole after being busted during a previous job, and his sometime lover, Annie, is a beautiful master of disguise who can manipulate any situation with her looks.

FBI Agent Dodd has been following the robberies for some time and remains determined to catch the team, but he is most interested in capturing the enigmatic Bobby, who he calls "Smith".

It remains to be seen if Bobby will be able to defy his shadowy superior, Charlie, and extricate himself in time from the scores that give him such a rush, or if his retirement will be a forced one - behind bars.

The show is created and executively produced by John Wells (ER, The West Wing, Third Watch).
