Sticks and Stones is a South African television drama series produced by Fireworx Media which tells the story of a young woman who - unemployed, in debt and living with her grandmother - disguises herself as a man in order to get a job in the male-dominated construction industry.
While there are elements of love, suspense and intrigue, the story looks at the issues relating to urban environment, housing and human settlement and green technologies that have potential to change the construction industry.
Palesa is unemployed, undervalued and under pressure. She lives in a shack with her grandmother. When an accidental dropping of a paraffin lamp leads to a raging fire that kills her neighbour's children, Palesa is driven to explore alternative means of building.
She pulls on her gumboots and enters the construction industry.

Audio Describe
Sticks and Stones originally aired on SABC1 in 2014. It was subsequently commissioned to Audio Describe in the same year to repurpose it for the benefit of visually impaired SABC audiences. The Audio Describe version aired in 2015.
Audio Description is an oral and literary art form that creates access to the visual world through language. The visual is made verbal through innovative use of words to communicate visual events, either in real time or pre-recorded.
Audio description has diverse applications and is relevant to a growing range of industries. For example, audio description refers to an additional narration track for blind and visually-impaired users of visual media, including television, film and DVD, dance, opera and visual art.
It consists of a narrator talking through the presentation, describing what is happening on the screen during natural pauses in dialogue or between critical sound elements and inserting narrative that translates the visual image into an audio sense form, thereby reaching millions of people who otherwise lack full access to television and film.
