About the Show

Fly Chix is a South African docu-reality television series produced by Muthaland Entertainment which revolves around the introduction of the all-girl singing and dancing group Fly Chix to the music industry, focusing on how their families deal with their career choice as well as the obstacles that are part and parcel of the cutthroat music industry.

The series premiered on DStv's Vuzu channel on Wednesday 30 January 2013, at 19h30. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 10 half-hour episodes in the series.

Synopsis

Fly Chix is an all-female, fabulous and fresh South African group made up of the singers and dancers Denise, Joy, Zeena and Takkies. The show revolves around their introduction to the music industry.

Viewers will be given an all-access look into their lives and most importantly how their families deal with their career choice as well as the obstacles that are part and parcel of the cut-throat music industry.

In the season premiere we witness the birth of The Fly Chix and get a behind the scenes look into their first music video shoot. We jet off to Durban for a performance where drama soon unfolds.

So who are these sassy trendsetters?

Born and raised in the North West, Kopano Denise Zimba found herself in love with the stage at a very young age. She was once a backing vocalist and dancer for Jozi.

Joy Ragebult's passion comes from honing her talent and giving back to the community in Riverlea. She has worked with international choreographers like Laurie-Anne Gibson. She is currently studying for a Bachelors degree in Business Administration.

People speak of dynamite coming in small packages and Zeena Edwards from Riverlea Johannesburg personifies that statement. "A performer's life is like a very long journey to an unknown destination because it's never really about the destination. It's the journey that makes all the difference," says Zeena.

Perhaps the most energetic of the group, Nkateko "Takkies" Maswanganye was born in Tembisa. She has travelled the world extensively over the years pursuing her passion for dance and in the process obtained training from Mia Michaels – an American choreographer best known for her judging and contemporary choreography on the TV show So You Think You Can Dance – as well as Wade Robson.
