Bio

Niall Matter is a Canadian actor best known for his role as Zane Donovan in the science fiction television series Eureka, from 2007-2012.

He is also known for his starring role as Evan Cross, an inventive genius who made a fortune in cutting edge micro-tech before dedicating his life to investigating Anomalies and protecting the public from the dangerous creatures that come through them, in the science fiction television series Primeval: New World, from 2012-2013.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Matter began acting in high school and was named Best Male Actor at the Alberta High School Zone Provincials in his graduating year.

Matter's interest in film came early; he was writer/director/star of his own short films from the age of 13. Following graduation, Matter moved to Vancouver. He graduated from Vancouver Film School and divided his time between auditions in Vancouver and hard work in the Alberta oil patch.

Matter worked for eight years on oil rigs in Northern Alberta. After a bad accident on the rig that left him hospitalized and almost caused the amputation of his right leg, he returned to his home in Vancouver.

He appeared in numerous commercials, but he was not getting the break he wanted until, just two weeks before his 26th birthday, Niall booked his first lead role in the Syfy Original movie Beyond Loch Ness.

He followed up with the lead role of Trent Hamilton in the series The Best Years. He also had a featured role in the series Heaven or Something Like It, was a guest star on Fear Itself, had a recurring guest slot on Stargate Atlantis and had a lead role in the feature Dr. Dolittle First Dog.

He has also appeared as a recurring guest star on both Melrose Place and the new 90210. His notable film credits include Zack Snyder's Watchmen, Under the Hood, Exley, Secrets of the Summer House starring Lindsay Price, and Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief alongside Peter Coyote.
