Nandi Nyembe was a South African actress best known for her role as Nandi Sibiya on the soccer drama Zone 14 and for her role as Sister Lizzie on the SABC1 drama series Soul City.
Nyembe is also known for her starring role as Lily in the iconic SABC1 drama series Yizo Yizo (2001-2004) and as the leading character in the SABC1 sitcom Izoso Connexion, from 2006-2007.
Her film credits include the role of Sangoma Rachel Ndlovu in A Reasonable Man (1999), Miriam in Saturday Night at the Palace (1987) and a sangoma in Yesterday, in 2004.
In 2007 she starred in the M-Net drama series Jacob's Cross, playing the role of Thembe Makhubu on all five seasons.
In 2009 she had a guest starring role as Senior Mma Makgothi on the British-American drama series The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency and in 2014 she had a starring role in the SABC1 drama series Sticks and Stones.
Between 2017 and 2020 she starred in the Mzansi Magic telenovela Isithembiso as Dolly.
Her other television roles include Gogo in Soul Buddyz, Ntshebo Maloka in Hillside, Big Jo in Erfsondes, Ma ka Brian in 4Play: Sex Tips for Girls, Ma' Mazibuko in Ashes to Ashes, MaZwide in House of Zwide, MaGetty in Adulting and Gog' Mkithi in Isibaya.
In 2017 she received a SAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Soap/Telenovela for her role in Ashes to Ashes and in 2024 received a Best Supporting Actress in a Drama nomination for her role in Adulting.
Nandi died on Saturday 23 August 2025 at the age of 75. The cause of her death was undisclosed.
