John Lithgow is an American actor, musician, and author, best known for his roles as Dr. Dick Solomon on 3rd Rock from the Sun, Arthur Mitchell on Dexter and Reverend Shaw Moore in Footloose.

Lithgow is a two-time Tony Award winner and was most recently nominated for his starring performance in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Previous credits on Broadway include: Mrs. Farnsworth, The Retreat From Moscow and Sweet Smell of Success.

TV credits include 3rd Rock from the Sun - for which he received three Emmys, a Golden Globe, an American Comedy Award and two SAG Awards - Twilight Zone (Emmy Award) and Don Quixote (SAG Award nomination).

Lithgow's films include The World According to Garp (Academy Award nomination), Terms of Endearment (Academy Award nomination), Shrek, Cliffhanger, The Pelican Brief, Memphis Belle, Footloose, Raising Cain, Orange County, Ricochet and A Civil Action.

He also had a starring role in the feature film Kinsey and a HBO tele-film, The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, in which he portrays Blake Edwards (November 2004).

Lithgow is also the New York Times best-selling author of Carnival of the Animals, I'm a Manatee, Micawber, Marsupial Sue, Marsupial Sue Presents: The Runaway Pancake and The Remarkable Farkle McBride.

He has performed in numerous concerts for children across America - including four appearances at Carnegie Hall and shows with the Chicago, San Diego, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Detroit Symphony Orchestras, the New York Pops Orchestra and the Orchestra of Saint Luke's - as well as with New York City Ballet in Carnival of the Animals.

Lithgow has also recorded two CDs, Farkle & Friends and Singin' in the Bathtub.

His first non-fiction book, A Lithgow Palooza!: 101 Ways to Entertain and Inspire Your Kids, was released in April 2004, and has received the Parents' Choice Silver Honour Award.

Five sequel books, Lithgow Party Paloozas! 52 Unexpected Ways to Make a Birthday, Holiday, or Any Day a Celebration for Kids, Lithgow Paloozas! Boredom Blasters: Rainy Day Edition, Halloween Edition, Sick Day Edition and Travel Edition are currently in bookstores.
