Bio

Devi Sankaree Govender is a South African journalist best known for presenting on the M-Net show Carte Blanche, from 2002-2020.

Devi began her career in journalism on radio while she was completing a BA degree at the University of Natal in Durban.

She quickly moved on from presenting music shows, to becoming a freelance talk show host for Lotus FM, a national public broadcaster. Devi's daily radio chat show, which is now in its sixth successive year, is well known for its straightforward approach to tackling sensitive and controversial issues.

After completing an Honours degree in Drama and Performance Studies and a Higher Diploma in Education, Devi joined the education fraternity while still freelancing on radio.

A year into her teaching stint, she resigned and joined Lotus FM as a full-time talk show host. Devi's biggest moment on radio was when she interviewed former President, Nelson Mandela, in 1998.

Devi's television break came in 1996 when she was hired as a freelance continuity presenter for SABC 1's Eastern Mosaic.

While keeping her radio and television career on the boil, Devi then joined the Sunday Times in 1998 as a weekly columnist. A year later she joined the Sunday Times as their Features Editor in Durban. Devi's weekly column is now going into its fifth successive year.

In January 2002, Devi joined the Carte Blanche team as their youngest investigative television journalist.

After completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management and an MBA through the University of Natal, Devi initiated her own corporate communication's company. One of her more current endeavours is in the field of corporate training where she coaches senior managers on media etiquette.

Devi also hosted the Carte Blanche spin-off series Carte Blanche Consumer.

She left Carte Blanche after 18 years, making her last appearance on Sunday 26 January, 2020, to pursue other interests.
