Blyde Smit is a South African actress best known for her role as Gabby Kemp in the SABC2 soapie 7de Laan.

After matriculating from Afrikaans Hoër Meisieskool Pretoria in 2013, she went on to do a Bachelor Degree in Drama at the University of Pretoria, where she performed in various theatre productions.

She proceeded to finish her Honours Degree in Drama Cum Laude, specialising in Screenwriting, in 2017.

Blyde made her television debut at the age of 12 on the SABC2 drama series Erfsondes, in which she played Little Kate (the younger version of series star Jana Strydom).

She appeared in the first two seasons of the show, from 2007-2009.

She also appeared in television commercials for KFC and Kinderjoy.

After completing her tertiary education, Blyde began working professionally in film, theatre and television, and opened her own photography and videography studio in Pretoria called Sowaar Studios.

She played the guest role of Svetlana in an episode of the e.tv soapie Scandal! which aired on 3 December, 2018.

The following year she landed the recurring role of Gabby on the SABC2 soapie 7de Laan, making her first appearance in the role on 9 April, 2019.

Originally credited on the show as "In Opleiding" ("In Training"), she was later promoted to "Byspeler" ("Supporting Actor"), and continued to play the role into 2021.

Also in 2021, she played a nurse in an episode of the Netflix paranormal series Dead Places, which released globally on 16 April that year.

Later that year Blyde landed her first starring role in television when she was cast in the role of Luca on the Showmax romantic comedy series Troukoors (Wedding Fever).

In the series her character is a nerdy coder who is socially awkward and battles to navigate a romantic life.

The first season of Troukoors was released on 13 December, 2021; and later aired on kykNET, premiering on 15 May, 2022.

Blyde returned for the second season of Troukoors, which released on Showmax on 5 May, 2022.
