AWARDS The Silwerskerm Film and TV Awards are happening on Saturday 22 August - at the end of the 2026 Silwerskerm Festival. The ceremony airs on kykNET on Sunday 23 August at 19h00. True life crime miniseries Niggies leads with 11 nominations followed by Suidooster with eight, Skemergond with seven and comedy Die Kantoor with five.

AWARDS Medical drama The Pitt leads 2026 Emmys with 25 noms across the Primetime and Creative awards. Doesn't impress us - medical dramas make us sick. Comedy Hacks follows with 24, Widow's Bay comes in third with 19, followed by existential gem Pluribus with 18. Primetime ceremony happens on 14 September, preceded by the creative awards the weekend before.

AWARDS 2025 Ms South Africa pageant to air live on S3, SABC+ and Mzansi Magic at 19h00 on Saturday 25 October, preceded by a red carpet at 18h30. With only nine finalists instead of the initial 10 after Lebohang Msimanga withdrew to "serve her individual path and well-being." In other words, she wasted a spot that could have gone to someone else because they haven't replaced her - which is ridiculous. Not that we care. We're SO over this dated "I'm better than her" competition.

AWARDS Diepe Waters wins the 2025 MIP Africa Inclusive Lens Award for Best Representation of Persons with Disabilities in a Scripted Series. The MIP Africa trade market's been happening during Fame Week in Cape Town from 1 to 6 September and Diepe Waters won for its portrayal of differently abled swimmer Lucas, played by Caleb Swanepoel.

AWARDS The theme for the delayed 19th SAFTAs: One Story. One Industry. One Future. The eligibility window for entries has been extended from 12 months to 18 months because of the hold up. Projects that have been on air, screened in cinemas or streamed online between 1 January 2024 and 30 June 2025 will qualify to enter.

AWARDS 2025 SAFTAs delayed until March 2026. Reason cited by the National Film and Video Foundation: "leadership changes within the NFVF and related unforeseen delays". Also: "This adjustment ensures that the SAFTAs align with the international awards calendar, providing South African talent the opportunity to be celebrated in parallel with major global film and television awards." The awards used to be in March, before Covid.

AWARDS 2025 Basadi in Music Awards to air on SABC2 on Saturday 9 August at 18h30, followed by the Vanguard Awards on Sunday at 20h30. The Basadis honour women musicians and the Vanguards tribute women behind-the-scenes - artist managers, stylists etc. The ceremonies happened on 1 and 2 August at the Johannesburg Theatre, hosted by Lerato Kganyago and Lamiez Holworthy respectively.

AWARDS Tyla won Favourite Global Music Star at the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday 21 June, which she headlined as host. Other category nominees didn't stand a chance. AWARDS Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk (Saul) nominated for a 2025 Tony theatre award for his portrayal of Shelly Levene in classic David Mamet play Glengarry Glen Ross, about the tragedy of a salesman who can't land leads. The role was played by Jack Lemmon in the 1992 movie.

AWARDS Entries for Ms South Africa 2025 have opened on the pageant's website and the age restriction has been raised by a measly two years. It's now 20 to 32 instead of 30. Height and weight restrictions have been scrapped. The reality low Crown Chasers will return before the pageant, with extra episodes and a reunion show after the finale.

AWARDS 28-year-old Mia le Roux was crowned Ms South Africa on Saturday night (10 August). According to Mia, this is why she entered:" As a deaf woman with a cochlear implant, I represent a community that often goes unheard.
